VERY happy DeNiro was nominated for SILVER LININGS, along with Cooper, who I REALLY want to see get the Oscar for it (although that'll never happen)

I disagree regarding DeNiro; I would have preferred a character actor in that role, someone like JK Simmons. I also didn't think Arkin's performance in Argo was that noteworthy. I thought several other actors in Lincoln could have better filled that spot. Although it probably doesn't matter since I can't see anyone beating Tommy Lee Jones this year.

Oh, I totally disagree. I thought DeNiro was heartbreaking and fantastic.

I also rented 'Bernie' the other day and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad to see it get some nominations. Judi Dench and Javier Bardem were TERRIFIC in 'Skyfall' I am glad that have received some recognition. I also really enjoyed Logan Lerman's performance in 'Perks of Being a Wallflower'.

I'm pretty sure Affleck wanted to underplay his lead role but he just disappeared in his scenes with Goodman and Arkin who were chewing up the scenery. Then again, I just didn't like the film. Surprised no DiCaprio in the supporting actor spot.

And I'll once again say A Royal Affair, in the foreign language category, is fantastic. Don't go in expecting a postcard period movie. Sure, it is melodrama (a very good one at that) but also incorporates the enlightenment ideas of the period. It also has Lars von Trier in the producer credits, if there was ever a give-away that this is not a typical period film.

madbrian- completely agree about Arkin in Argo. I heard all this buzz about how great he was... then I saw the film and thought, "...Really? That was it?" Cranston and Goodman were more notable supporting actors in that.

No one loves Javier Bardem more than I do, but WTF? His Skyfall performance is watery canned ham.

I guess it's good to be Jennifer Lawrence...three down, one to go.

I stand by that I think he was robbed of an Oscar nomination.

Jennifer Lawrence is a remarkable young woman. Also, congrats to Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day Lewis, Ben Affleck, and Jessica Chastain. I'm happy that 'Wreck It Ralph' won Best Animated Film. I'm still a little pissed about the BAFTAs snubbing it.
