Hi everyone,
The league is now full at 14 teams. I think that will be the perfect balance in the long run. We did have to lose one owner to make it an easy number which is always sad, but at least it was a volunteer.
The scoring is:
It's Head to Head weekly games and the categories that are counted are standard 5X5:
Batting:
Average
Home Runs
Stolen Bases
Runs
RBI
Pitching:
Wins
Strikeouts
Saves
ERA
WHIP (Walks + Hits/IP)
The draft will be Friday night March 31st at 9:30pm est. You don't have to be present at the draft to play, but I do recommend

Last place, here I come! *fist pump*
I am sure the bottom of this league will contain some Penguins.
Okay, pandas are at least gonna be the winner of the animal teams
I would argue, but who am I kidding.
Aww, it's okay Pengy. I have lotsa fantasy experience, won my family league a couple of times but the best had to have been in a 12-person league, I was the only girl(and I mean they were all totally cool w/ it, knowing I knew more about baseball than almost any of them) and I won. So cool to be able to say that.
But look on the bright side...if we were having a competition of Sbarro singers, penguins would definitely not come in last place

We're having a live draft? Is that fair to people in different time zones?

thats why you pre-rank players, in case you cant make the draft.

Nope.
Actually, I think it is. You can set your "preferences" so it basically works the same for those that can not be there as a "non-live" draft would.
(Like Zoneace just said)
And 9:30 EST is a pretty good time. I mean Patronus is a west coaster anyway.
(I am doing a preliminary pre-ranking right now.

Problematically, I need to remember that fantasy isn't sabermetrics.
Actually I think esp. w/ the time east-coasters/NYers are at more of a disadvantage. Broadway shows are going on at that time, more difficult for some NYers to be here...guess I'll try my best
Yeah, the time thing was an issue.
The draft needs to be as close to the start of the season as possible. The last thing anyone wants is to have their star play injured in spring training and have your season over before it even begins.
There were no decent times on the weekends unless I got up at 5:30 in the morning, and that wasn't going to happen.
The time is negotiable, but this was really the best bet for everyone considered. I don't get out of work until 8:30 est, so that is a bit if a limitation right there.

Actually, it can be. Ron Shandler's book "Baseball Forecaster" is a fantasy ranking publication that takes intense sabermetric formulations and applies them to fantasy baseball.
I did try and keep the categories easy in this league since it is a more casual league and focus on the traditional AVG, when I much prefer OBP or even OPS as a performance indicator, but I didn't really want to make it too "intense" for the casual fantasy fans.
The hardest thing for me was making the league Head to Head as opposed to Roto. I dislike the H2H format personally, but it's more interesting in a casual league for casual fans. Roto is really where it's at.
wickedrentq, you New Yorkers can miss on night of Broadway shows. Hell, I miss 355 a year at least. :-P
Ok I joined the league. I have never done one before, but my brother has for years and has triedto convince me. So yeahh, I will def be in last at the end because I will just pick the [;ayers I like that are decent. Oh well it should be fun!
i signed up
my team is the hartford abbasox lol
L's Wicked Bees are signed up!
Very nice explaination there captain.
Those of use who are Sabermetrics fans will just have to suck it up.
(I also like Roto, but I think the Head to Head is easier to follow, and you get feedback each week.)
I am a long time follower of the stats, but this is my first fantasy team as well, so to the newbies I say, "Don't Worry, Be Happy."
I've actually never played a ROTO league myself, so this is easier.
And I actually did a math paper on baseball statistics, I too agree if there's one single stat to best judge an offensive player's progress, it's OPS.
My only problem with OPS is I have a latent distaste for power numbers, I far prefer OBP, just because I hate the HomeRun binge.
But that is a personal bias, OPS is certainly a better indicator of overall production.

all of these acronyms are going right over my head.
but i'm still excited.

Penguin, your instincts are right- OPS actually overstates the importance of power. But that's what you get in exchange for a stat that's easy to calculate without an elaborate Excel table. :)
Oh, and I have no clue what head-to-head or Roto or any of it means. So I'll just be in the corner nodding and smiling.
