Well, it's easy to call dibs. What's harder is to get anyone to honor the call.

Ship I have to do my rankings...
#63re: Official 2006 BWW Fantasy Baseball League
Posted: 3/27/06 at 10:31amI could prevent it from allowing any further owners and set the draft order now if people would prefer that.

I just changed the settings to allow a maximum of 16 teams. We currently have 15.
Since it's Head to Head we have to have an even number of teams or it won't let us draft. We need one more slot. I am changing the title of the thread to reflect that.
16 is plenty of teams for a casual league.

Well, if no one else signs up and we appear to be heading into the draft with an odd number of teams, I guess you should just create a dummy team and let Yahoo auto-draft for it.
The sad thing is that an auto-drafted team would probably win our league.

Dummy teams just create a problem and tend to shift the balance unfairly.
The only scenarios that I see fit assuming we don't get one more owner is to ask someone to volunteer to leave or to eliminate the last team that joined.
I don't expect it to be a problem though. I bet we'll get that last owner we need.

How do dummy teams shift the balance unfairly?
If you don't get that last owner, I'll bite the bullet and volunteer for elimination.

Well, there are 2 trains of thought.
1. You have a team that is completely unmanaged which means that injuries aren't subbed for and players cannot be traded. That automatically creates a set of restrictions that aren't fun.
2. You don't start players at all and let every week be a win for the team playing them. It isn't as problematic, but it's still quite boring, in my personal opinion.
I don't think it's an issue quite yet as I know there are a few more people considering taking a spot in the league. It's likely that the league will be full.

Okay, we didn't get that 16th owner, so we did have to eliminate an owner unfortunately.
slimandslam, thank you very much for volunteering to be the "odd man out" so to speak.
We now have 14 owners and I changed the settings so no one else can join.
That is probably an ideal number of owners anyway.
I did go ahead and put all 14 team names in a hat (and yes, I really did use a hat) and had Anji pull them out to come up with the draft order.
It's only 12 hours ahead of the draft, but perhaps it can help.
So...here is tonight's draft order:
1. JLSatUD's Bombers
2. jam_man Uberbirds
3. Plum Ninja Pirates
4. Panda
5. Mooney's Pussy Pies
6. Dawnlikesrent
7. Andre Dawson's Creek (that's me)
8. Caitie's Crazies
9. shayjericho
10. The SmartPenguins
11. the hartford abbasox
12. CQTBOO Crushers
13. L's Wicked Bees
14. timote's Blue Sox
The complete draft order can be seen here:
http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/51931/draftresults
For all your newbies to Fantasy ball, this will be a serpentine draft. That means that the draft order reverses from round to round. So, Timote's Blue Sox will have the last pick in the 1st round and the first pick in the 2nd round. AKA...back to back to picks.
If you can't make the draft tonight, that's totally fine. Just PLEASE make sure you pre-rank your players. Yahoo's rankings doesn't take into consideration injuries, etc. So, you could get stuck with a bum.
As always if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to PM or ask here on the thread.

Yes! I am not last!
Whenever we pick our season tickets for the baseball games I always pick either 12 or 13 for the first round.
So I guess I have to thank Anji!

I'll take this one for the team, so to speak.
Have a wonderful time in the league!
P.S. Remember: Prior and Wood, of course, are starting the season on the DL...
