I ate at Toloache last night, which is pretty delicious.
I'm indulging in Butter tomorrow night, and I can't tell you how excited that makes me!

Posted: 1/26/12 at 2:49pmI've been dying to go to BUTTER. I love Alex Guarneschelli.
2012 NYC Restaurant Week #3
Posted: 1/26/12 at 2:55pmI had lunch at Red Rooster Harlem last week and their restaurant week menu is probably the best deal in town, considering dinner reservations are booked solid for weeks in advance. Highly recommended.

Posted: 1/26/12 at 3:19pmNot familiar with too much on that list, but I did enjoy Les Halles downtown. I was underwhelmed by B Smith's.

Posted: 1/26/12 at 3:19pmMy friend made the reservation for Butter yesterday. It was either 6pm tomorrow or not until 10pm all next week! And the menu looks so very delicious!

Posted: 1/26/12 at 3:24pmI had the same experience with Butter, Robbie. 5:30 or 9:30 pretty much every day. (Ironically, the only night this week that had a 7:00 reservation for two this week was Saturday, which you'd think would be booked solid; unfortunately, it's also the night when RW menus don't apply). I settled for a 9:00 reservation on Tuesday night. Excited to try it, and their RW menu looks a bit more expansive than most, which I appreciate.

Posted: 1/26/12 at 3:27pmAnother vote for Red Rooster, also One If By Land, Two If By Sea. Visited both for the first time last week and had great meals.

Posted: 1/29/12 at 2:19pmI went to Thalia on 8th & 50th before. It was good, from what I remember. Good place to go if you are in the theater district.

I've got reservations at The Russian Tea room for next Friday night, before seeing Elaine Paige in concert at The Allen Room.
I ate there quite a few years ago, and the food was delicious - and we sat right across from the booth that was used in "Tootsie."

Enjoy, AC!
The Cavatappi pasta with spicy lamb sausage (they're not kidding about the spice) is absolutely sensational. My date had the salad, which was amazingly fresh and the roasted grape dressing was a delight. I had the pork chop and ordered a side of potatos. Even though they were delicious, we didn't need the potatos as the chop came with a beautifully creamy polenta. Date had the ravioli and was kvelling. For desert, he got the sticky toffee pudding and I had the dark chocolate pound cake and then we shared. The cake was terrific. I highly recommend it. But the sticky toffee pudding is essential. Just magnificent. The whipped sour cream cut the sweetness perfectly. Such a friggin delight!
OH...and if you're a drinker, try the Butter martini (it's pomegranite flavor).

That Cavatappi is what I've had my eye on since I looked at the RW menu. And I'll probably do the duck for my entree. The friend who I'm going with is a vegetarian, so it was nice to see that they have a few non-meat options, as well. And we'll probably both go in for the sticky toffee pudding.
I'm a cocktail lover, so of course I checked out the drinks menu ahead of time. I'm psyched to try the Brown Derby (I'm a bit obsessed with Bulleit Bourbon as of late) and the sidecar.

There was major sturm und drang over to duck or not to duck. But you can't go wrong with any choice.
Tell your friend that the ravioli comes with (strangely) VERY thinly sliced potatos. It's not listed in the description...but it was very, very delicious.
The date had the Brown Derby. I'm not a bourbon guy, but it was so tasty, curl up with it and make sweet lovin.

Posted: 2/3/12 at 1:59pmI'll be honest...it's up very high on my favorite NYC meals list. I think number will probably always be Babbo. But Butter was really magnificent.
