Not gonna lie--as crazy as it sounds, since the tsunami, this has kind of been consuming my thoughts.

What do you all think? Will December 21st, 2012 be the end of the word?

So many predicted end of the world dates have come and gone in my lifetime, I fully expect to survive the actual one. Me and Tina Turner and Betty Buckley. And probably Arthur Laurents. That 2012 date will come and go too.

Isn't there an end of the world scheduled for May 21st (or something around then)?

All those people driving around in a caravan of trailers warning that the end is this May. I can't think of the name of the group though.

Not gonna lie either, it's something I have thought about too. But when ya start to think about it, there have been so many "end of the world" dates set and all have gone by with nothing happening. And I know disasters seem more common, but that's because we are more conscious of them (news is instant these days)
Also, many scientists believe that the 2012 date is actually inaccurate and that it may even have occurred! And also, many scholars believe that the 2012 date is not a "end of the world" scenario, but more of a world wide "realization" kinda deal.

Maybe this is insensitive, but if they could predict the end of the world couldn't they have seen their own downfall coming?

I don't think it's going to be the end of the world, as in the palent blowing up, but I do believe there is going to be something that will change the world as we know it.

Things can't go on the way they have been.

Oh, the world's not going anywhere. Humanity, however... I don't know. The planet has a habit of taking care of us when we get to become too much of a bother.

As for 2012, it's just another end date, like all the other end dates. People seem to like scheduling them and then being relieved when they don't come to pass. I think it's silly people have put so much stock in an ancient calendar that ended on an arbitrary year, particularly since more evidence seems to indicate it's been misinterpeted for decades.

Reminds of that Twilight Zone where the gangster dies and goes to heaven. He gets everything he asks for. Eventually he gets so bored and numb from not having any challenges or excitement he says "well if this is heaven I can't imagine what the other place is like".

One thing I can assure you, if 2012 is the end of the world, on January 1, 2013, Elaine Stritch will pop up out of the rubble singing "I got through all of last year and I'm here"

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I don't think the world's going to end, I think that's just when they stopped their calendar. Believing the world is going to end on December 21st 2012 because the Mayans "said so" is no different than believing the world is going to end on December 31st 2011 because there's no dates after that on your calendar. :P

Raising Hope had a line this week where Burt said "My Fabulous Babes" calender ends on 12/31/2011! It doesn't mean it's the end of the world- it just means that it's time for 12 new fabulous babes!

This is what I'm trying to explain to my little cousins, which gets harder and harder each time because we've got a very "Christian" grandmother who is counting down the days until Jesus comes back for his people...sigh.
