Having Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin to end that SAG/AFTRA infomercial was fantastic. It made everybody in my house laugh.

And Sigourney Weaver wearing bad clothing at an awards show that honors her work in Political Animals seems apropos since whoever costumed her in that series committed a war crime.

Dick Van Dyke is receiving his longtime overdue Lifetime Achievement recognition. As a film and TV star, receiving this honor from SAG is dually relevant.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Re-runs of The Dick van Dyke and I Love Lucy formed my taste in comedy and comedy writing so much. So glad he's still around. Shame that neither Carl Reiner or Mary Tyler Moore could not be there.

Of course the DICK VAN DYKE SHOW and MARY POPPINS and CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG made me fall in love with him, but DIAGNOSIS MURDER reinvented that love all over again.

His TV movie "The Comic " about a washed up silent screen star is rarely if ever shown which is a shame.

Just glad there will not be outright sweeps in the TV or film categories.

How do award shows work? Do you submit yourself to be voted on? Or you're nominated or what?

ucjrd -- it depends on the organization that founded each awards program. I only know the details of how the Tonys work.

For SAG, I know that you are nominated by and voted for by peers. I would imagine there is a nominating committee of SAG members who vote for nominations. Then anyone who is an active SAG member can vote.

Sometimes for an awards show, you do have to submit yourself (or someone who represents you has to submit you). Not sure how it works for the unions' own awards.

We lost a LOT of wonderful actors this year who were mainly known from "classic TV." A LOT of them.

Andy Griffith, Jack Klugman, Ron Palillo, Phyllis Diller, Dick Clark, the list goes on and on and on and on.

Jennifer is definitely re-tailoring her speeches too. I guess any Globes speech is informal but interesting she brings up this detail about David O. Russell's son being bipolar now.

Honestly, after her "acting is stupid" comment and her Globes joke (that I thought was cute) her PR team probably went into over drive. I thought her speech was great.
