Apparently he told his wife, Faye Grant, of the original V series, about molesting and exposing himself to a number of underage girls. In couples therapy, she asked him specifics and he gave them. He didn't know she was recording the session. TMZ has the tape.
Damn, Reverend Camden
I saw that today! Jesus H!

It's weird. Back when Huff Post announced the divorce the wife said she was shocked to find out he had filed.
So the wife is getting back at him for divorcing her by releasing these tapes? How come she didn't say anything sooner? This is serious stuff.
I was actually wondering if she is complicit in the crime because of that.

If they were seeing a licensed clinician, that discussion would have a mandated report to the authorities. But then again, Kate Hudson apparently referred to a palm reader as her therapist.

I always thought he was unbearably handsome in the '80s and had high hopes for his Indiana Jonesy series "Tales of the Gold Monkey." I also remember being completely grossed out when he took the job in the religious "Eight is Enough Minus One" show and the time he went on the warpath about Jessica Biel's photo spread. He's been dropped from Ted 2 and apparently was going to be in Eve Ensler's new play at the A.R.T. but dropped out before rehearsals.
I guess it's a good thing he didn't raise Jenny Girl, after all.

Natural causes just means a homicide or suicide isn't suspected.

Serious question- what are mental health professionals like this therapist legally required to report to authorities? Are they bound by confidentiality beyond just reporting murder and potential suicide? If this was really said in therapy, shouldn't the therapist have reported it immediately? What expectation of confidentiality is there when seeing someone like this?

henrikegerman can probably explain this better than I, especially with regards to NY law.
But I'm not sure a therapist is a "mandatory reporter" when it comes to past behavior. By the time of Collins' "confession" to the therapist, the deeds to which he confessed were in the distant past and his victims were grown.
If the molestation were ongoing, the situation would probably be different.

Jesus, it's one duckduckgo click away.
Mandatory reporting of child abuse and neglect in California and New York state are required by: "Social workers, teachers and other school personnel, physicians and other health-care workers, mental health professionals, child care providers…."

Mandatory reporting of child abuse refers to the fact that if a child presents to a health professional with evidence of recent abuse, the professional is required to report it. The goal is to remove the child from immediate danger. They are also required to report immediate threats to safety i.e. if a patient expresses that they may harm themselves or others. In this case, it was a discussion of a past crime, so it does not have to be reported. Or at least that's how it works in Canada.

That's not how it works here. Correct me if I am wrong, PJ.
When I was a kid, I had such a crush on him. If only I would have known I was just his type!
Oddly, I'm not completely shocked by this news. I remember reading one of his novels back in the 90s. I think it was the first one. The amount of sexual focus on women (bordering on erotica) for a run-of-the-mill thriller/suspense novel actually surprised me for some reason and the novel itself just felt sorta sleazy. I mean, it wasn't terribly well-written, but beside that, the novel really seemed to exist as an outlet for his sexual fantasies. Back then, I suspected something darker under the surface and ever since he sorta gave me the willies, but I just assumed my instincts were off since nothing significant happened in the last 20 years. I thought maybe I was being too judgmental because of a crappy book.

Hard to separate the artist from the art in this Publisher's Weekly review of his debut novel, which I never knew existed.
… a cliched, thinly drawn character who comes off as an empty, pathetic sexual predator ...
