9/11 Par-TAY!!! WOO!!!!!!

From Salon.com:

We're gonna party like it's ... 9/11?

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld announced yesterday that the Pentagon will celebrate -- and really, there's no other word for it -- the fourth anniversary of 9/11 with a country music concert and an "America Supports You Freedom Walk."

We are not making this up.

You might think that the secretary of defense could come up with a more tasteful way to reflect on 9/11. And you might think that the Bush administration would be able to refrain, just this once, from linking the war in Iraq back to the attacks on 9/11. You'd be wrong on both counts. As the New York Daily News reports, Rumsfeld is planning a Fourth of July-style "support the troops" extravaganza for Sept. 11, 2005. The day will start with a march from the Pentagon to the National Mall, and it will culminate with a concert by Clint Black.

Black is the man behind "I Raq and Roll," a country ditty that conflates Saddam Hussein with "the devil" who attacked the United States on 9/11: "We can't ignore the devil, he'll keep coming back for more ... If they won't show us their weapons, we might have to show them ours. It might be a smart bomb -- they find stupid people, too. And if you stand with the likes of Saddam, one just might find you."

Did we mention that we're not making this up?

If Rumsfeld really wants to commemorate the attacks of 9/11 in some kind of meaningful way, we've got an idea for him: He could tell the truth to the 9/11 Commission about a report that the U.S. military had identified Mohammed Atta and three other hijackers as potential threats more than a year before the attacks.

America Supports You....

and the "you" they are speaking of is mercenaries paid by the United States to torture families in Iraq.

Sweet, merciful Jesus.

I'm so glad my Fundamentalist family is turning away from this administration.

They're holding hands with the Devil and leading us all into Hell and even the people they blindsided are starting to figure it out.

And yet, just like Nero, they keep fiddling while Rome burns...

To paraphrase a great American patriot: "Have you no sense of decency, Mr. Rumsfeld? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"

I can and do vote, it's just the concept of a 9/11 party, coupled with the sampled lyrics from "I Raq and Roll", is making my head explode.

Hmm....let's spend a lot of money on a huge party rather than making certain that those hummers in Iraq are properly amoured.

I am absolutely shocked that that's a Clint Black song. I mean, there are artists I disagree with politically, like Brooks & Dunn, who I often find on the good side of issues. Like when Kix Brooks said he's an American and believed that Natalie Maines, as another American, had every right to say what she said about Bush and the guts to stand behind what she said.

But Clint Black's lyrics on that song, I can scarcely contain my disbelief! SO artless! SO stupid! I used to really like him.

Does anyone have a spoon here for me? None of mine are big enough to handle the large amounts of bull**** being served up to me by this administration. Please tell me there's going to be somewhere where we can write a letter to tell Rumsfeld just how sick this idea really is.

Speechless.

I'm still dumbfounded by Clint's song.

Why oh why didn't Lisa Hartman grab him by the shoulders, shake him violently and yell, "When I said 'I do,' I had no idea you could be THIS stupid."

re: 9/11 Par-TAY!!! WOO!!!!!!

It was a great moment on early television and marked the end of one of the worst right-wing tyrants in US history: Senator Joseph McCarthy, whose smear-and-destroy tactics have been equaled only by Karl "No Decency" Rove.

The sentence was uttered during the live, televised Army-McCarthy hearings, which McCarthy was holding ostensibly to root out Communists. The real reasons were a mess and included an act of revenge on the part of McCarthy's closeted lawyer, Roy Cohn (later immortalized in Angels in America), because the Army had stationed overseas Cohn's secret homosexual lover.

Back then, as today, there were closeted Republicans running the show.

Finally, in front of the cameras, McCarthy decided to "out" as a "Communist sympathizer" a young legal staffer for Joseph Welch, who was counsel for the Army. This was NOT the point of the hearings--and it was on nationwide television. Welch couldn't believe that McCarthy would stoop so low.

Welch started to speak: "Until this moment, Senator, I think I never gauged your cruelty or recklessness." When McCarthy kept going, Welch said, "Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator. You have done enough." And then finally, Welch said the words that changed the course of American history: "Have you no decency, sir? Have you, at last, no sense of decency?"

In that moment, the American people turned their collective back on McCarthyism. McCarthy's reign of terror was over.

I pray every day for something like that to happen to re-open the eyes of the American public and end the tyranny of this administration.

Again, the Republicans want to put a 'happy face' on this war.

Do they really think this country is going to fall for more of this BS?

Where's my gun?

Lisa can have her marriage annulled, she just needs to prove Clint is feeble minded. By him singing here, that just may do it.

I just read about the walk at its website
and you guys are a**holes because you are blowing it out of proportion and stirring up people's emotions. Didn't your parents raise you well enough to know that discussing politics in mixed company is in poor taste?

It's simply a WALK and that's all. I agree that Clint Black's song (and his attendance) is a tad random and inappropriate but there is nothing wrong with a walk to commemorate a historical event. It's not like it's the "9/11 Freedom Circus" with chimpanzees dressed at Saddam and a Carnival outside or anything like that.

I couldn't give a rat's ass about your opinions and your postings have nothing to do with a Broadway Theatre board.

Find the appropriate forum for political ranting.
