90s Kids - Let's Reminiece about Nickelodeon Shows

Posted: 8/10/08 at 12:53amThere was a hilarious, wildly original show called Weinerville, hosted by (and created by) Mark Weiner. I can't even begin to describe, because the concept was so off the wall, you'd think the guy was nuts (which he probably was). However, the execution was brilliant.

Doug! OMG, I completely forgot about that show!
Good times.
Dearest, how can this be so? You were dead, you know. - Candide
Oh my god, this show has everything! Half naked guys and girl on girl action! - [title of show]

I totally loved "Action League Now" from "Kablam". I wish they put that out on DVD. I can still hear The Flesh saying "Ouchies!"
"Weinerville" was awesome. Marc Weiner also did stuff with puppets and other random acts on SNL in the early 80s.
Wasn't there also a Nick news show called "5 W's" or something like that?

The Linda Ellerbee program was called, "Nick News W5." Many episodes were a bit boring.
HOWEVER, I give her a lot of credit for addressing some important issues that kids were dealing with in a very no-nonsense, let's not talk down to kids, way. She did specials like, "I have two mommies", one on AIDS awareness, divorce, drug abuse (and kids whose parents were drug abusers), parents who were in the military (during the first Gulf War- she talked to the kids about how they felt), and other weighty issues. She was doing it, and the network was airing, when the broadcast channels wouldn't go near it with a ten foot pole. So, for that, I have enormous respect for her.
By the way, the show is apparently still on. It was nominated for an Emmy this year for Outstanding Children's Program. I have no idea when it airs, though. They must put it on in the middle of the night. I don't ever see any publicity for it.

Posted: 8/10/08 at 3:05pmThey probably just have specials occasionally. I remember there being a 9/11 one.

I can't believe no one has mentioned All That!
I can't find any pictures of it. The best sketches were the know it all book girl and Lactose Intolerant Man, or something... I remember the bad guy was a milk man.
Hilarious!

All That was mentioned awhile ago. My favorite sketch was always "Vital Information with Laurie Beth Denberg."
There was also the Repair Man (man man man man) sketches that were pretty hilarious too.

I mentioned "All That" on the previous page, Biff.
Superdude was lactose intolerant, and two of his enemies were Milk Man (Josh Server) and Yogirl (Kel Mitchell). I also liked when Katrina Johnson would pop up randomly and ask what lactose intolerant means. There was also Lori Beth as the sweaty lady.

I remember when Nick News W5 was on, before it just became Nick News. It WAS boring at times, but I agree that Linda Ellerbee deserves some respect for talking about issues, without being condescending towards the youthful audience, that most other outlets wouldn't touch. I always liked her.
Doug was great, and I remember Weinerville! Who wants to get Weinerized????
And as for All That, Josh Server is STILL a cutie. I think he has a myspace, if I remember correctly.

Found this today...
Someone went and actually found the old Bar None set from Hey, Dude, and what it looks like today. Apparently when production on the show ceased, they just left the set...

Posted: 8/13/08 at 11:55pmI was at the store looking at movies the other day. I leaned over to my brother and said, "I admit it, I secretly love the 'Power Rangers' movie." He was like, "I love the one where they have cars!" We're dorks haha.

Some more...
The infamous corral, which looks remarkably unchanged
Inside of the main lodge, again:
Mr. Ernst's office
The view of the main lodge, from the boys bunkhouse (a view you never saw on TV, for obvious reasons!!!)
The porch of the boys bunkhouse
FYI...You can actually go to the old Bar None ranch. It's located on the grounds of an actual dude ranch in Tucson, Arizona. You just have to hike into the desert a bit to get there.
