Posted: 8/8/08 at 7:38pmThe Legend of the Pinball Wizard was the ultimate Are You Afraid of the Dark. I don't think I played video games for weeks after that.

Aw, we watched The Voyage of the Mimi in fifth grade for some unit, I'm not sure what. It featured a young Ben Affleck...
I missed a couple of pages in the middle, but has there been no love for Eureeka's Castle? It might have been the highlight of my 3-5 year old self.

These look so low-quality now, but it was a simpler and much happier time. (Aside from Operation Desert Storm, etc...)

Oh My GODDDD great thread. =)
What year was everybody born? I'm 1992.
Rugrats was always my favorite, but I love Doug, Clarissa Explains it All, Angry Beavers, Johnny Bravo, All That, Keenan and Kel, and Cat Dog.

I'm an oldie. Born in 1979.
And how about "All That"? The kid's version of SNL. Lori Beth Denberg and "Vital Information" was so funny! I had the biggest crush on Josh Server. He and Kenan Thompson were in this short web series recently called "Laugh Out Loud" which sort of parodied "All That". Check it out on YouTube!

I got ya beat by a year, SNL -- '78.
Please don't do the math to see what age that's about to make me.

As my screename suggests, I was born in '82 and grew up in the golden era of Nickelodeon.
Surprised that nobody has mentioned "Mr.Wizard" which came on at the wee hours of the morning (like around 5 a.m.) One time we had a school assembly where my teachers told us that Mr. Wizard was going to perform. Turns out it was just one of his crappy "assistants" who was really a biology undergrad at the local community college. Major bummer.

For Nickelodeon's demise, I blame TEENick!! In 2001 is started as a few hours on Sunday. Then more hours, Then everyday. Soon enough it was TEENick everyday all the time. Now we have Zoey 101 ,I'm in love with my best friend but she doesn't know it, PLEASE we have Soaps, there supposed to be on CBS & ABC NOT Nickelodeon. My mistake NICK
F*CK J. Boogie!!!!!

I have always blamed Spongebob Squarepants for the decline of Nickelodeon. Sure there were duds along the way like The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, but Spongebob marked the end of Nick's Golden Age.
And SNL - That episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark was genius, I am so glad someone else shares my love for it.

Posted: 8/9/08 at 5:56amThe Are You Afraid of the Dark? episode that I mentioned I never forgot actually kind of spoiled The Sixth Sense for me because I figured out the twist a few minutes into the movie (even seeing it early on and not knowing that there was a twist). In the episode, the main character thinks he's being stalked by a ghost of a beautiful girl, but it turns out that he's actually dead and he had died in a car crash with the girl but didn't remember. The only living person who can see him is his sister. At the end of the episode, he discovers his own grave alongside the girl's. That's HEAVY stuff for a children's tv show! Three episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark stick out in my memory. One was the one with the crazy chef and a soup recipe (no, not the soup Nazi, but equally as terrifying). The second was an episode featuring a character called the Toymaker or something. There was a room on the top of an apartment building that housed this weird toy factory, some of the time. It kept appearing and disappearing. The third was the aforementioned video game episode- I too was afraid to play video games.
By the way, since we're sharing, I was born in 1983.

First: sweetestsiren, the one you're talking about was about a bowler, right? I remember it taking place at a bowling alley.
Second: adamgreer, I loved the episode! The chef made a secret ingredient from someone's greatest fear.
The one that sticks out in my mind the most is...
QUICKSILVER!
There was another one I remember about this kid who moves into a new house, finds this stone, and then gets sucked back in time.

Thanks for that list! The episode about the toy man was called The Tale of the 13th Floor!
I just searched around and found that the show was available on DVD at one point...the copies are now going for a lot more than they did originally. Trying to decide if it's worth spending about $100 for all five seasons on DVD...

I remember The Tale of the 13th Floor having a young Aaron Ashmore in the episode. Such a cutie back then.

Yes! The guy worked at a bowling alley and didn't understand why his manager was totally ignoring him.
Quicksilver was my second-favorite episode, actually. I have season 3, which overall was really strong. You forget that some people who went on to have bigger careers guest starred on the show, like Neve Campbell ("The Tale of the Dangerous Soup").

Oh, I love this thread.
Hey Arnold! and Doug were my favorite NickToons. Disney really ruined Doug when they bought it, and then they just kinda dropped it. I also loved Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Clarissa, All That, Keenan and Kel, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare, Alex Mack...everything!
They actually play Keenan & Kel on The N sometimes. I've watched it a couple of times.
