ummm... fun? Can't say that would be the first word that comes to mind for my experience with it...

"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife

I know! everyone thinks I am crazy, but I really did have fun!! Not saying it was easy, but it was fun. My teacher was right! He said it would be fun.

Okay, question:
The major reason why Jefferson was interested in purchasing Louisiana from France was that he
A) wanted to establish the precedent for the expansion of presidential authority
B) wanted an area beyond the Miss River to which Native Americans could be moved
C) had learned from Lewis and Clark of the untapped mineral resources in western areas
D)hoped to cement a Franco-American alliance against the British
E) hoped to preserve an agricultural society by making abundant lands available to future generations

Jefferson was for egrarian interests, so that answer does make sense.

He wasn't concerned with expansion (more like Polk w/ Manifest Destiny)and was quoted as saying that the purchase would "marry ourselves to the British" (ironic since Dem-Repub's are pro-French). The other choices, B & C, are just not correct, but I don't have an explanation for why, sorry! re: AP American History

Yeah, I remember now! Thanks.

Here's another one:
Liberty of conscience was defended by Roger Williams on the ground that
A) all religions were equal in the eyes of god
B) the institutions of political democracy would be jeopardized without it
C) Puritan ideas about sin and salvation were outmoded
D) theological truths would emerge from the clash of ideas
E) the state was an improper and ineffectual agency in matters of the spirit

I want to say E because I'm pretty sure he was one of the earliest advocates for the separation of church and state.

Where are you getting these questions? They are pretty good!

I think it's E, too.
The questions are from a take-home review test we are doing. We are allowed to use any resources we want, but I did almost all of them without any help.

I can put up more if you like.

This one isn't too difficult:
In part, Lincoln refrained from taking action to emancipate the slaves until the Civil War had been in progress for almost two years because
a)he sought to maintain the loyalty of the border states
b)slavery still existed in some Northern states
c) Congress had not granted him the authority
d) he was preparing a plan to send all of the slaves to Liberia
e) he feared hostile reaction from the British and French

OKay, I am picking short ones because I hate typing. :-p
This one's easy:
Of the following, the most threatening problem for the UNion from 1861-1863 was
a) possible British recognition of the Confederacy
b) Spanish intervention on Santa Domingo
c)French objections to the Union Blockade
d)British insistence on the abolition of slavery
e) British objections to the UNion position of "continuous voyage"
