Abortion Doc Killer Sentenced to "Hard 50"

The Christian Taliban strikes again!

Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas doctor whose clinic received national attention for performing late-term abortions, was shot to death as he entered his Wichita church on Sunday.

"Members of the congregation who were inside the sanctuary at the time of the shooting were being kept inside the church by police," the Wichita Eagle reported, "and those arriving were being ushered into the parking lot."

Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion, making him a favored target of anti-abortion protesters. He testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 "Summer of Mercy" protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993.

Tiller was acquitted in March of misdemeanor charges stemming from procedures he performed, but moments after the verdict the state's medical board announced it was investigating allegations against him that are nearly identical to those the jury had rejected.

Prosecutors had alleged that Tiller had in 2003 gotten second opinions from a doctor who was essentially an employee of his, not independent as state law requires, but a jury took only about an hour to find him not guilty of all 19 counts.

Tiller, who could have faced a year in jail for even one conviction, stared straight ahead as the verdicts were read, with one of his attorneys patting his shoulder after the decision on the final count was declared. His wife, seated across the courtroom, fought back tears and nodded. The couple declined to speak to reporters afterward.

Tiller, 67, has claimed that the prosecution was politically motivated. An attorney general who opposed abortion rights began the investigation into Tiller's clinic more than four years ago, but both his successor, who filed the criminal charges, and the current attorney general support abortion rights.

It's these Right Wing Religious fanatics who feel justice has been served. Go over right now to Freerepublic.com and read what they are saying.

Most Christians do not support abortion. I am not saying all Christians condone this man's actions but there is a group who support killing Abortion Doctors and bombing Abortion clinics and they call themselves Christians. They even say they are doing the killing in the name of God.

Today in History: May 31 2003, Eric Rudolph was arrested.I would like to say this is a coincidence, but I am not so sure.


Let's see when they catch the guy if he is a Christian. We have Muslim Extremist and Christian extremist. Sounds like someone is just a tad defensive when using the words Christian and Taliban.I don't know of any other word to use.Would Christian Terrorist sound better?

Well, we need more information before we know whether the man was acting alone, or in concert with others. And by others, I include organizations that post the name, addresses and pictures of Doctors that perform abortions on their sites.

Army of God has praised the killing of Dr. Tiller on their site.

But, I assume you condemn this action.

It seems as if Judas is saying that not all members of the Christian Taliban should be besmirched by the actions of one person. Which I think is fair. Judas, you and the other non-violent members of the Christian Taliban (so far) have a point that's well taken.

Sorry for correcting you, ywiw. Calling doctors "Mr." instead of "Dr." is one way militant anti-choice terrorists dehumanize health-care providers, as in today's insincere statement by Operation Rescue:

"We are shocked at this morning's disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down," anti-abortion group Operation Rescue said in a statement on its Web site. "Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller's family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ."

The more militant of them go so far as to call both the doctors and the mothers "murderers."

I understand what Judas is saying and like I said, I think he took what I said personally (?????) People call Muslim's terrorist as well and yet the two Muslim's I know are the most peaceful and loving people I think I know.I stand by my statement and am sorry Judas took offense by it.Homosexuality and Abortion are two hot topics with Christians.I used the Christian Taliban term with some friends this week while discussing the Prop 8 Ruling as well.
