re: Academy Nominations being announced

"Broken" Glass!!?? That's what I get for holding two conversations and trying to post on here at the same time!

Anyway, I'd love to see Peter Sarsgaard get nominate for Best Supporting Actor for "Kinsey"- along with the amazing Laura Linney as Best Supporting Actress.

My other long shot goes to Sharon Warren as Best Supporting Actress for "Ray."

re: Academy Nominations being announced

I think Ray's only hope for an acting nod is Jamie Foxx, although if they're handing out supporting nods, Regina King or Kerry Washington would be a likelier bet.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

re: Academy Nominations being announced

I would prefer Kerry Washington over everyone else. What a lovely woman. I just hope that Meryl Streep doesn't take up anyone's slot.

For her fearless performance in Manchurian Candidate you mean?

No, for her hammy performance in Manchurian Candidate. re: Academy Nominations being announced

Couldn't agree with you less on that one. But has she been nominated in any awards up to now though?

re: Academy Nominations being announced

Well she didn't get an Oscar nomination. But Laura Linney did.

re: Academy Nominations being announced

Poor Paul Giamatti didn't get nominated...again!!! Sucks to be in the running for all the preliminary awards (like he was last year for American Splendor) and not get the biggie! I feel kinda bad for him...oh well.

And Mike Leigh got a directing nod for Vera Drake. Woo!

re: Academy Nominations being announced

ONE nomination for Kinsey. THAT'S ALL? Screenplay not nominated!? I wonder whether I should even bother watching in February.

And Alan Alda is totally undeserving for The Aviator, a film that really mesmerized me but did not feature more than two nomination-worthy performances.

re: Academy Nominations being announced

Oh well... not too many surprises. I just don't think RAY deserves a Best Picture nomination. But Oscar never can seem to resist anything celebrity driven.

re: Academy Nominations being announced

'Eternal Sunshine' got the expected short end of the stick, although Winslet's nomination is a deserved surprise. Carrey deserved a nomination as much as anyone who did, including Jamie Foxx.

re: Academy Nominations being announced

I'm eager to see what the tech nominations are...

Jamie Foxx, Hilary Swank, Cate Blanchett and Thomas Haden Church win anyway. I don't think the Academy is interesting enough to surprise us.

re: Academy Nominations being announced

What's up w/ the Best Score nominees?!?!?!
FINDING NEVERLAND
HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN
LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS
THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST
THE VILLAGE

No M$B, no Sideways, I heard The Aviator was disqualified so that was expected....The Village (I don't remember there being anything extraordinary from that. Other than FN, they seemed to pretty much be out of nowhere!)

I was also pretty peeved about Alan Alda for The Aviator. What a blase', non impressive role. To nominate him over Peter Sarsgaard, Freddie Highmore, and (from what I've heard) David Carradine seems pretty ridiculous!

re: Academy Nominations being announced

Ray is indeed very undeserving of a picture nod, and Taylor Hack-job is most undeserving of his directing nod. Shame.

But Sophie Okonedo got nominated for Hotel Rwanda! Fanfreakingtastic!

re: Academy Nominations being announced

Three Oscar nominations for The Passion of the Christ and just one for Kinsey? Uhhhh sure the Academy tries its best to avoid politics...

Clinton Eastwood's MDB score wasn't nominated because he submitted the paperwork too late.

re: Academy Nominations being announced

I'm sure he's content with just the two nominations for himself though. But that'll teach him.

I wonder if he'll win anything? It would be hilarious if Clint upset Jamie Foxx for Best Actor. If he upset Scorsese for Best Director? Not good.
#47

re: Academy Nominations being announced

I doubt that there will be any upsets in the main categories, though I wouldn't be sorry to see Aviator lose out on Bes Picture to Million Dollar Baby.

re: Academy Nominations being announced

I would definitely be sorry to see that happen. Of course, with the one nomination for Kinsey, it's not like I have just cause to view the Academy's choices as validating my own interests anyway.

Now on to watch two of my favorite films from 2002, Gangs of New York and Far From Heaven...

Total Oscar wins for those films? 0/14.

Gangs Of New York? Seriously? That was the longest 3 hours of my life and I was not sorry to see it snubbed at awards time. Far From Heaven, on the other hand.....
