although i knew Hugh Laurie way before he was on House, his accent always gets me. plus how sexy he really is. :)
what got me was Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder Suresh in Heroes). His accent is great and I thought completely real till I saw him on the Regis and Kelly show. freaked me out.
and Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura in Heroes). great accent!

Posted: 6/4/08 at 2:35pmFloweryFriend - You definitely need to check out Daniel Day Lewis in My Beautiful Laundrette and The Unbearable Lightness of Being. That's when I first fell in love with his acting. And though he plays a minor character, A Room With a View is sheer bliss.

Posted: 6/4/08 at 2:50pmI just remember being flabbergasted by Rachel Griffith's accent on a behind-the-scenes featurette on a Six Feet Under DVD. The fact that she pronounced her character's name as 'Brinder' was baffling. Amazing.

Saoirse Ronan.
I've seen her in "Atonement" (British) and "I Could Never Be Your Woman" (American), and I honestly don't know which accent is her real one.
ETA: I just read on IMDb that she was raised in Ireland! So BOTH accents were faked! Well done, chica!

Posted: 6/4/08 at 9:45pmI was totally surprised when I heard Ed Westwick's British accent in a Gossip Girl interview! His American accent is very convincing, especially since his British accent is so thick.

I never would have guessed that Portia de Rossi is Australian. Her accent can be heard in her first film, SIRENS, but she later trained herself out of any trace of it after moving to LA.
Another actor who trained himself out of his native accent was Texan Larry Hagman, only to have to conjure it up again for his JR Ewing role on Dallas.
