PJ - It's the way he said it. He could have told other reporters, but he specifically waited to break the story to Rolling Stone because it would be "cool". And then he goes on to say he's proud of his sexuality. His intentions may be good, but the wording of that quote is ridiculously unfortunate. He can confirm the obvious with who he wants when he wants. I just don't think it was particularly helpful to reveal that little nugget of motivation.
Who cares?
The 15 minutes are starting Adam. . .
Him and the b/f will break up when one catches the other using his hair gel.
Yawn.
He may be proud of his sexuality, and good for him. A person's sexuality is not the point of "American Idol." The show is about singing, not if someone is gay or straight.
Ok. I don't think anyone was arguing that.
this is an excerpt from Perez on the article, i.e the producers and the decision:
Lambert admits that he was nervous about coming out while Idol was still on the air because contestants are under a media embargo, preventing them from talking to reporters, and he wanted to do it on his "own terms." (He also says producers were open to him handling it however he wanted to.)
All I know is he looks smokin' hot on the cover, and that it says there is also an article about my Chris in there. I'm so buying this Friday.
at least he is comfortable with it, thats more than I can say about several people I know. and while I don't think people will, he is def. a positive role model for the newer generation, so maybe it will help them? Updated On: 6/9/09 at 12:02 PM

I think that the way he's gone about this whole thing is awesome :) It was a tricky situation because there were going to be naysayers no matter how he handled it, and ultimately he just did it all on his own terms. The way I see it, why shouldn't he have waited for the Rolling Stone article just because it's cool? He didn't OWE it to anyone to "come out" any particular way. Heck, he didn't owe it to anyone to make an "official announcement" at all!
Plus, it makes perfect sense why he'd rather do it in Rolling Stone than just state it right away for any old media source. Again, he wanted to do it on his own terms- not because people were expecting him to. If he'd just been like "yes, I'm gay" right away then he probably wouldn't have had adequate time to really talk about it in the way he wanted to talk about it, and make the larger statement he wanted to make. This way, he has a whole article where he can go nice and in depth on it, and explain it in the way he wants to explain it.
I guess I just don't have any problem with him choosing Rolling Stone "just because it was cooler" because, well, it's his own dang business you know? He probably was asked to do the cover really soon after Idol ended, and who WOULDN'T prefer to wait to do it in Rolling Stone? It IS so much cooler that way! haha
But yeah, I just hope that now it's fully out there and no one (*cough*PerezHilton*cough*) can claim he's a "coward and publicly closeted", people will just move on and start appreciating him for his TALENT, and the fact that he has the potential to be a freaking amazing music artist, rather than focusing on something he's never HIDDEN in the first place :)
Also I'd just like to say that HOTT DANG THAT COVER IS SMOKING! <3
Better Rolling stone than People magazine with "Yes, I'm gay" in big bold letters.
What about TIME magazine with "Yep, I'm Gay"?

Yup, this one is SO MUCH COOLER
I cannot stop staring at that cover O-O
I wasn't impressed with how he says he's proud of being gay and supports civil-rights...but doesn't 'really want to get involved'.
I get it, he's about music - not politics, but how much effort does it really take to fully support it using his fame for good? Going to the rallys, showing his face gets press for the right reasons. Even wearing the white ribbon in support?
It's a bit like Ellen Degeneres, shes great apart from when it comes to important issues because she remains so neutral to not upset her audience/the network. It's a bit like...she's married now, so she's not as concerned.
More straight celebrities seem to be stepping up than gay. Sheesh.
If one's coming out has to be a media event, why WOULDN'T you choose the best and coolest way to do it? I don't think it's media whoring at all. I think it's making the best of a moment.
And bravo to him for coming out period. Hopefully more and more people will come out over the years. Hopefully one day people won't have to come out on record at all--because it just won't matter.

I guess the way I see it is this:
Adam is definitely NOT shying away, in any way, from the whole "role model" aspect of being a celebrity. From day one he's very much been about encouraging people (especially young kids) to embrace each others differences, and encouraging young kids who FEEL different to keep their confidence up, and have faith that one day their differences will be appreciated.
I think with Adam it's just that he doesn't want to box himself in. Not to say that there's anything wrong with all the people who speak up so strongly for gay rights and all that- that's incredibly important and the people both gay and straight who take that direct approach are amazing.
But I think Adam's approaching it from a bit of a different angle. He's trying to spread the message that ALL people who feel "different" should be proud of their differences. I don't think it really matters to him whether people are gay, straight, bi, or anything else. He's more about sticking up for anyone who may not quite fit the mold of what we consider to be "normal". And I think, in a sense, that's a really powerful approach to take too. It tries to bridge the gap between gay people and straight people, and say "it doesn't matter WHO you are. This isn't about gay v. straight. It's about everyone embracing everyone's differences.
I think that is completely justified as well, and so I can't say I really fault Adam for not taking the specifically gay rights approach. If he was completely hesitant to make any kind of social/political statements at all then I'd agree he could do more to use his new found fame for good. But I think he IS making a big social statement simply by being himself and encouraging others to be themselves as well. And that statement does INCLUDE gay people, for sure. It just doesn't limit itself to them either :)
I think Adam just doesn't so much want to get caught up in the nitty gritty politics of the gay movement. Which I can understand because honestly, politics these days- especially on the gay rights issue- get so convoluted, and sometimes end up doing more harm than good I think.

Do you think Jodie Foster would have felt "Comfortable" thanking her lover if she had been named Elizabeth or Ruth or Celeste? Jodie Foster's "Coming out" was like an "It's Pat" sketch.
I voted for Kris.
Meh - he does nothing for me in the "hotness" factor. In fact, for some reason he reminds me of Liza.
Perhaps it is the short black hair and the overdone eyes.
He has an amazing voice, and that's all that really matters to me.
But, squint a bit and you can see Liza on that cover!
WHAT?! ADAM IS GAY?! NO! THIS CAN'T BE TRUE?!
NO! NO, I SAY! HE'S NOT! AND UNTIL YOU SHOW ME A PICTURE OF HIM SMOKING A FLESH CIGAR, I'M NOT GOING TO BELIEVE YOU!
Oh, come on! Someone somewhere has got to be completely broken up over this. What's the point otherwise?

Anyone else surpised he wasn't on the Tony broadcast?
Is that a picture of Clay Aiken, borstal?
Perfect, if so.
Cartwheel is not taking the news well...
Interesting that he admits to having a crush on KRIS - calling him his type.
This is the best part lol
admits to having a crush on the his roommate and Idol winner Kris Allen.
"I was like, 'Oh, s?, they put me with the cute guy,' " Lambert recalls of bunking in the Idol mansion with Allen. "Distracting! He's the one guy that I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type ? except that he has a wife. I mean, he's open-minded and liberal, but he's definitely 100 percent straight."
Who wouldn't have a crush on that cutie.
