His AMA performance wasn't really that great. I agree. I saw him on Letterman and he was very good. No kissing or simulated oral sex. I really don't look at him as a gay stereotype. Back in the 80's, people who dressed and looked like him were Punk Rockers, not gay. All of these show cancellations, in my opinion, were done out of fear and didn't give him a chance to show that he knows that he can't do what he did on the AMA's on GMA. And who knows, he may have. But we were never given the chance to find out. In my opinion, ABC made a big deal out of this. Yeah, it was a bit shocking, but it was the AMA's and my thought is that he brought a bit of the MTV "raunchiness" to one of the "big 3" networks. Nothing really worse than what they already broadcast with 1/2 of the shows in their weekly line-ups. I am not a Lambert fan but I think this has all been blown a bit out of porportion. As far as the comments about him dragging the gay community backwards, he is who he is. I suspect he has always been this way. The only difference is that he is now a celebrity being who he is. I suspect that he is focused on his music, he just got a bit too excited, didn't stick to the "script" for his performance and here we are!
Just my random thoughts as I sit here half awake after watching the President receive the Peace Prize.

Clearly he knows that gay icons such as Madonna, Britney, or even Cher have never been aggressively sexual in their stage acts, therefore he could avoid such pitfalls by a bit of crotch-related action.
What? Is he talking about Hicklin or Lambert there? Is he being facetious. I couldn't give a crap about Adam Lambert's music, but I ain't worried about the "gay image" being tarnished. WTF is "the gay image"?
Dumb.
I think the author of this article is missing the point that Adam looks the way he does because he's a glam rocker and that's the way he wants to look as one. He's not looking that way because he's gay. Hello, this is show business and that's his act which has nothing to do with whether he's gay or straight.
Ugh...I hate this kind of crap!
There is no one "gay image".
Adam is being Adam, anyone who actually watched Idol knows that. He's dressed like this since he was a kid, and I think it's great that he was so supported in expressing himself.
This article says much more about the author than Mr. Lambert.
Carrie Prejean is damaging the straight image.
No, Carrie Prejean is tarnishing the Right Wing, Air head, Chritian, blonde beauty pageant contestant with fake boobs, who touches herself and shares the videos image.
I hated every Lambert performance on American Idol, so the less we see (hear) of him, the better. Whatever the reason.

Madonna has never been aggressively sexual in her stage act? is he being sarcastic?
What a waste of column space. This Christopher Muther should have said that Maggie Gallagher is damaging the "gay image" (whatever the hell he thinks that is anyway).
Christopher Murther is damaging to the image of journalists, as if they could take another hit these days.
Why does Cher get the "even" status in his series? Of all those performers, she's the one I least equate with "sexual."
eta: nm, I finally get what he was trying to say after reading it five or six times, which speaks badly either of me or of him.

Do I actually have to take the time to read this thing to know that this guy is a douche?
Please say no. I don't want to waste my cough syrup with coedine haze on him.
He is right about Freddie .
adam lambert secretly hates the gays and himself and is on a kamikaze mission to destroy them both with his overt nature and the putting it in amurricah's face! he should so just go be quiet about his sword swallowing like a good little gay.

In all the hysteria, why has no one stopped to ask why his bad artificial tan is as orange as a supermarket clementine? Where is the voice of reason asking why he’s dyeing his hair the shade of Wayne Newton’s shoe polish
Has this person complained about the over-tanned female singers with dyed blonde hair as well? Where was he during Eminem's platinum caesar-cut era? I don't consider myself a fan of Adam Lambert, but it's ridiculous to criticize him for creating an image, as if the rest of the music industry is fresh-faced and all natural.
As for his comment about gay stereotypes, I have to wonder if he's even watched TV since Paul Lynde was alive, because the gay stereotypes Adam Lambert was alluding to definitely exist and they don't involve wearing eyeliner.
I agree orangeskittles. The idea it was all just a 'gay thing' he has been doing is ridiculous.
Joe Strummer regularly dyed his hair, shaved it, made a mohawk, and **gasp** dropped his real name along with his rather bourgeois upbringing to be a dirty punk.
What Adam has done with his public persona is hardly unique in the music business. In fact he is not even close to extreme in terms of superficiality and suspending from himself like other artists.
"He's not looking that way because he's gay. Hello, this is show business and that's his act which has nothing to do with whether he's gay or straight."
I totally agree, Jane.
