There was supposedly a charter from Alaska to a small airport outside Dayton, Ohio last night that was shrouded in security and secrecy. So, the buzz is that may be choosing Sarah Palin as his VP. Or, maybe it's Ted Stevens!
44 year old, conservative Governor of Alaska, avid hunter and lifelong member of the NRA.
Best comment I've heard so far abut the prospect of it being Palin; "a Cheap, pathetic, suck-up to women".
I agree. It seems like a desperate, overly-calculated move to me.
Thoughts?
It might not have been a bad choice if he had made it before the Dem convention. I guess they had no idea the convention would be so successful. Done then, it could have been a preemptive play for disillusioned Hillary supporters. Now, it may seem a little desperate. Also, it's tough for him to call Obama inexperienced if his VP is a first term governor of Alaska.
Having said all that, I think Palin may be a significant part of the future of the Republican party at the national level.
Oh yeah. I can see all my late-50s feminist friends FLOCKING to her.
It would be an interesting choice.
Here's a link to the rumor from the Chicago Tribune
The Swamp- source says McCain picks Palin
She comes with baggage all right -- empty suitcases. Govenor for a year and a half, competing on the international stage opposite Joe Biden? Eligible only because she has female genitals? That's hardly the basis of feminism, and women's struggle for stature and recognition; if anything, it's a cynically pandering approach to wooing the femae vote -- as if women are so shallow, they'd vote for just about anyone, regardless of experience, gravitas, political heft, knowledge of foreign policy. If it is she, look for the hasty abandonment of the attack on Obama as a rock star. This really is picking a Britney.
And there goes McCain's best angle...the inexperience of Barack.
This is Qualyeish.
If it is this Palin, I'd have to give McCain some points. Mostly, because given the poll numbers (which shouldn't be anywhere near as close as they've been), it is obvious that somebody really likes McCain. The safe thing for him would have been to pick one of the people who have, apparently, been eliminated. They wouldn't have done anything to negatively impact his numbers. She, on the other hand, leaves him open to the same criticism that Obama is getting. Lack of experience. Of course, it's very difficult for the Dems to say "well your VP choice doesn't have the experience, either!" Because it then just confirms that their presidential choice doesn't. It doesn't make me warm to McCain, but it's a far more interesting pick than the others.
When I saw the thread title, my immediate thought was of Michael Palin. I might even have switched from Obama-Biden to McCain-Palin if that had been the case.
Before every speech, he could say, "Good evening. I'm Artur Purdy." But it's not a former Monty Python member, now, is it?
Keep in mind that Palin is currently involved in controversy. She is alleged to have abused her power in an effort to have her brother-in-law, who was involved in a messy divorce from her sister, fired from his position as a state trooper.
Meh... He doesn't even pick up a state by choosing her. Alaska is already red. This man is delusional and listening to too many people.
It's possible she can be used to promote the "Drill here, Drill now" wedge.
i think my heart is broken... carrie underwood is going to perform at their convention? shes a republican?
*head hanging low* what a shame
That is a LOW BLOW. I loved her till a second ago. Dean Cain and now this!
It's a more interesting, unconventional choice than Tim Pawlenty or Mitt Romney, I'll give him that.
But let's not jump to any conclusions, just yet...remember when everyone thought Obama's pick was Evan Bayh?
CNN just got confirmation from a 'highly placed McCain staffer' that Palin's the choice.
i can't say i support this ticket.
according to tpm!!!
Singing at a convention is a job. People don't perform for free. It's a gig!
As for Palin, she becomes the only person running, with executive experience.
Also, I'm surprised that there is so much hatred for John McCain, here. He has always been the maverick Republican, who the Dems really like. That's why there are soundbytes of Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton saying such nice things about him. His selecting a woman isn't that so out of the norm, for him.
JB2 - even if i was offered a million bucks i wouldnt step foot at the RNC.
integrity is something i value more than money. paying gig or not.
Well, you just have lots of hatred. A million dollars? Really?
The AP has just confirmed Palin as the pick, fyi...
Well so far from what I've read online "Sarah Plain and Palin" seems to be a very interesting woman. Her story is like a lifetime movie.
dont you mean "was" the maverick repub? i did not dislike mccain at the begining of the primaries. i dislike what mccain has become after the primaries.
the straight talk express has derailed more times than i can count.

McCain's a Republican. That alone is reason enough to hate him.
