"I think if I had a 4 month old I would want to devote as much time to him/her as possible, not commit to a job that is as time consuming as vice president. But that's just me personally. Being a mom is my job."
Stockard Fan, not every mother of a special needs child has the choices you do. With all due respect (and I do respect you), your comment seems to me like an indictment "disguised" as a personal values statement. Do you know WHY Palin works and supports her family as opposed to being a stay-at-home mom? WHY has she made this choice? What is her motivation? I don't know, but if you do, please share it with us.
"Women's Rights" are all about CHOICEs, not about doing what one group or the other believes is appropriate for women to do. But in some cases, women don't have as many CHOICES as other women do. It's great that you were able to be a full-time mom, but not every woman can do that...even if they wanted to.
I know nothing about Palin except for what I have read here. I would like to hear her speak and listen to her express for herself what her views and vision are. Then I will share what I think of her if anyone really wants to know. But until then, I reserve all opinions because I have nothing on which to base them.

Mr. and Mrs. Palin were clearly inspired by the Romneys when they named their sons Track and Trig and by TV's "Charmed" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" when they named their daughters Bristol, Willow and Piper. I am not sure how this occult connection will play to the fundamentalists, however.
It doesn't matter. Fundamentalists don't watch Charmed or Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I for one am in complete agreement with Stockard Fan. Most of us support candidates whose personal values align with ours and those who are willing to do our bidding. What's not clear to me now (and perhaps never) is whether McCain's choice is based on political expediency alone or Palin's unbridled ambition.
The woman is reported to have returned to the office three days after delivering a special needs child. Her response to the call of duty is admirable but I never like to see the welfare of children compromised in the least owing to the ambition of their parents.
I also wrote several months back that I wished that Obama had elected to allow his daughters to mature a bit before he sought the office of POTUS for similar reasons. The track record of first kids is not impressive. They are subjected to an enormous amount of scrutiny at a very early age. Regardless of the outcome, the children of both incoming Prez and VP will live in a goldfish bowl during what is often the most awkward stretch in a person's life.

Do you know this for a fact? The Republican Op on MSNBC was declaring Palin her "hero" because she coudn't wait to hear "how she does it!" Um, with hired help of course.

Of course they are. Just want to see them pull of the wet-nursing bit.

Yes, hired from Mexico, no doubt, illegally!
I thought she said her husband worked full time...not to mention all the extra-curricular activities.

well my wife called and said as a woman she was offended that McCain thinks shes stupid enough to fall for a stunt like this. she also said she would never vote for a pro-life card carrying member of the NRA... mind you she's an independent and not at all the left wing liberal i am. hopefully more women will feel the same.
apparently my republican inlaws are angry because they dont think a woman should hold office. that just makes me sad in general.

I'll let you in on a lil' secret. There's a large swath of Dems in the Old South that feel the same way as well which is truly sad. Some old folks can only take "change" in measured doses. Obama/Hillary or Hillary/Obama represented too much change too soon and McCain/Romney represented too much of a departure. I'm only forwarding what others around me have uttered in hushed tones.
If forced to, I could stomach McCain/Palin a helluva lot better than McCain/Huckabee. There is no room for a certifiable Jesus-freak in that White House. With Huck there is no middle ground on some of the thorny social issues.

Someone remind me, was JFK the last President to die in office?
If so, I think many folk will trun a blind eye to the notion that she might become President due to McCain's age.

Javero, you are making a judgment about this woman and her motivations. Tell us, how does it feel to be God?

Posted: 8/29/08 at 3:26pmto me when she mentioned shattering the glass ceiling...I felt that if she is the VP for a canidate who voted against equal pay for women and is against roe vs wade, how is that shattering the glass ceiling? That is setting women back 20 years. I think it is an insult to Hilary supporters that the Republicans think just because they put a women as the VP canidate they will vote for McCain....especially when she has completely different beliefs then Hilary. Today was historic but this election can't be about putting a women in the VP office or a black man as president...this election needs to be about issues and policies because our country is hurting and needs to be fixed

Well, one thing I've learned: Never underestimate the ability of Americans to focus on the present, and to ignore the future. I know that sounds cynical, but...well, that's pretty much what I've seen.
