She's cute and all but personally, I don't think this a great loss. She has probably earned enough money to live off for the rest of her life. I wish her well.

Don't you actually have to act at some point in order to retire....
I love her for doing this!
I highly doubt anyone will remember this, but there was a time when Nick at Night existed and had a variety show called All That. Amanda Bynes was even younger back then and had this segment "Ask Ashley". I'm sure it was just my age at the time, but I remember thinking this was hilarious back in the day. I haven't revisited this or many of the things from the 90s (except The Secret World of Alex Mack, which surprisingly DOES hold up. Just trust me.), but I remember this fondly. Still, to just suddenly announce retirement (and on twitter of all things) at such a young age is odd.
mormonophobic- I used to watch all her shows when my kids were growing up. My daughter loved imitating her. Back then, she was very funny- especially that Ask Ashley. Maybe she's just burned out from the business.
Publicity stunt. She currently has no agency.(which is odd since she has a new film coming out in September) She has a rep for switching agencies and for being difficult. She got fired in February from the Farley Brothers film HALL PASS. I think retiring means 'not getting any job offers'.Wouldn't she have her publicist make an official announcement? So far her reps have no comment.Either her account was hacked or she tweeted while drunk. Her Tweets are pretty crazy. She is known for Tweeting and then removing her Tweets.I think she could be suffering some sort of breakdown as well. What 24 year old announces they are retiring unless they want attention. Why not just stop working? Take a break? Why make an announcement? Has she earned her place to make a big deal about retiring? Gene Hackman retired and so did Sean Connery. They didn't really make a big deal over it. Maybe it's a way for her to get noticed or better scripts/offers. I think this is all very fishy.
By the way, I use to LOVE What I Like About You and She's the Man is one of my favorite movies. It's like she never wanted to grow up or do adult roles.
I really like her. I think she's adorable and I find myself just smiling when she's onscreen. I hope if it's true she's happy with whatever she decides to do.

Court dismissed, bring in the dancing lobsters!

Don't worry. I'm sure she'll be back.
off topic, but my all time favorite "All That" moment was with the chubby girl doing the "Weekly Update" type segment. There was one episode where she said, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it go pee." To this day, it still makes me laugh for some reason.
spider, you are speaking about the great Lori Beth Denberg. She was awesome.
Loved Amanda on All That and I watched the Amanda Show. She was more than adequate as Penny and I liked her in She's The Man. She may be tired of still playing high school, considering she's been in show business for so long and still looked at as a kid. Her most recent project is Easy A as a Mandy Moore in Saved! inspired character (but I personally like what I have seen from the film). At the same time she has been trying to sell herself as a sex symbol appearing on Maxim spreads (so not Judge Trudy!). I agree with romantico that her tweets are a bit out there (which makes this retirement talk sound both desperate and worrisome).
Lori Beth Denberg was a comedic gem-she needs to resurface.
I think Amanda is a great comedic actress. No idea whats up with the erratic announcement.
What ever happened to Lori Beth Denberg? She was hilarious. Even as a "tween" in the 90s I realized that.

Was it her in the movie with Colin Firth where he is her dad and she goes to England to meet him? If so, she's really adorable.

Maybe she can be on "Dancing wit the Stars" now.
Stockard, Yes. What A Girl Wants. I like that movie.
As for Lori Beth, the last thing I saw her in was Dodgeball.

Thanks singalongsong. I thought that was her. I loved that movie, it was adorable!
I really wished Lori Beth was at least on the radar screen at some point. I mean seriously, Keenan is on SNL and not this work of genius?

Seriously, Nick needs to put up a classic channel for its old shows and cartoons. I would watch the **** out of that.
Seriously strummergirl, if Nick did that my head would explode. I already found a channel for old Nick Gameshows like Family Double Dare and Legends of the Hidden Temple, but nothing for their awesome shows. Doug, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, All That, Secret World of Alex Mack, and many more are shows I used to watch that I'd love to see a channel for. Also, thank you for posting the two clips.
Lori Beth is one of the only cast members of All That that consistantly made me laugh. Even when she was on that game show "Figure It Out." Great comedic actress for a young age!
This says Lori Beth was stabbed to death...
Surely not though....

Many websites are saying her death was purely fabricated. I watch enoough of the entertainment shows and I never heard about her "death". Maybe dead as an actress since she hasn't done much lately.
