I just don't know why they'd say such deeply personal things on the FIRST SHOW! Do they think it will give them a sympathetic edge? And those girls were trashy and nasty--who'd want to hire them for a campaign?
I liked how Fatima offended all the "ghetto girls" and then once her sad story was revealed, everyone loved her.
I mean, I guess it's human nature. But....
Dominique looks a BIT like a man but I think she's going to be my fave.
Yeah that was my exact first impression.
Just an afterthought - is it me or did the editing SUCK? We knew all along who was going to get in, since they only ever showed those girls (with a couple of token decoys who I saw through right away). It was insulting to my intelligence, really - but so is the rest of the show, and yet I keep watching....
I think they try to make it too dramatic, like SURVIVOR. It's TOP MODEL--it should be fun and frivolous--the girls could learn alot from the people on BIGGEST LOSER, who treat each other with far more love and respect. Hm...does that say something about physical beauty?
Fatima is pretty and I feel bad about her vagina and all (don't they call it female "castration", not "circumcision"?), but sometimes her attitude is a bit skank.
Marvita didn't deserve to be on last season and she didn't deserve it this season. Virtually all the girls who weren't chosen were prettier and/or had more potential. Tyra obviously wanted another Jaslene storyline and ran out of ignorant bitches.
Stacy Ann...lap dance...girl, just stop.
Sorry, but I don't like Dominique. She has that too-tan look and her bone structure is too masculine. And what was that story about the man who abused her and "you can't put a price on ALL THIS" *hand waving about the face*? I don't know if it was the editing or her (I'm thinking her), but it just didn't make much sense. She's something of an egomaniac and like the fake tan, I just don't find it very pretty.
Kimberly's rockin' the Witherspoon look.
Aimee, Amis and Allison. All start with A as in Absolutely Forgotten By Now.
Whitney is the token plus-sized girl. Didn't we just have one of those? She needs to change her name or the spelling or something to stand out more. WIT-KNEE! or WHITNIS! How are we going to know who they're talking about?
They put that creepy Anya girl in the house. Maybe she'll be like Natasha and grow on me over a few weeks and I'll fall in love with her. Or maybe she'll be like jock itch and grow on me instantly and I can't get her out of my life fast enough. As of last night, it is the latter.
Claire drinks her own breast milk.
So far, I like Atalya and Katarzyna, but my favorite is usually the underdog, which is obviously Lauren. I can't wait to see how Lauren progresses (or not). Nobody thought much of Shandi in the beginning of Cycle 2, but by the time she made the top three, she was ready to book professional gigs on the spot. I still don't know why they chose Mercedes over Shandi for the top two. I found Mercedes to be pretty average overall. Yoanna looked like Hepburn, so you knew she was something of a lock, but Shandi was unique, very high-fashion, and memorable.
*squinting so I dont see anything*
I havent watched yet...with AI, BB and ANTM....the tivo is workin' overtime!
I love this show...cant wait to catch up!
"Claire drinks her own breast milk."
HA! Enough said.
lildoggs, I hear you, but since this is "fashion" I think they'd lose ratings if everyone was nice to each other. Which reminds me, though-how would Biggest loser be if they were all bitchy to each other? LOL.
I think on LOSER, they all kind of bond toward a common goal--plus they always have some sort of team situation which also encourages that.
But even the big butch boys are very huggy-weepy...I think it's really healthy for people to see straight guys act emotional and vulnerable--makes my nervous breakdowns seem much less dramatic.
You're so funny! But there MUST be at least one bitch in every group in the world. Maybe they just edit that stuff out on a show like biggest loser.
Yay! Mr. Matt's back! LOVE the critique! Can't wait to read your take every week! mom
mom - Thank you! I'm going to try my best, but my new job is sometimes unpredictable. And I think I may be in Europe towards the end of the season, so I might miss an episode or two. I'll try my best. I just love discussing this show.
AnnaK<3LMIP - I know, right?
I'm happy for Marvita! I was rooting for her last season, but she looks better now!
I'm very happy for Fatima too, but hopefully she can make it until Makeover's because THAT HAIR HAS GOT TO GO!!!!!! It's pulling her down!
Dominique looks a bit like Lisa from Cycle 5.
Kimberly looks a bit like actress Reese Witherspoon.
I can't say much about the editing, since I haven't watched it yet (I'm going to watch my tape as soon as I get home tonight!), but the top 14 girls have had their pictures and bios on the CW website for weeks now. So I don't think anybody is all that concerned about the element of surprise.
Woohoo another night!
Okay
SPOILERS AHEAD:
First of all can we just talk about Kim?
I mean, it's a good thing she went home now...right away. I didn't like her anyway.
Whitney is officially my favorite. She looked AMAZING on the runway in that purple dress.
I do not like Marvita. At all. I really hope she does not end up being the winner.
Amie and Anya are cute...but they look so much alike...
And this new judge. GORGEOUS. But I miss Twiggy. Not that I'm saying all the judges should just let Tyra be the star, but already I feel like she's too forward, but not in the awsome Janice way. I dunno. I'm not being fair. We shall see.
I think Paulina's great--she looked like a million bucks and she is a nice person (I used to work at a salon she frequented)--how skinny is she? Wow....
And again with Fatima's va-j.j....you can't ride the clitoral sympathy vote forever, hon.
I also think I know why Mr J wears so much base--his skin looks really bad, bless his heart--I still think he's adorable tho.
I LOVED Miss J's runway reactions as always--and his nametag costume is much better than the colored ruffs he wore last cycle.
Do we think Kim quit because Paulina dissed her face, TO her face? I think maybe.
Speaking of Paulina, after Twiggy's nicey nice judging (a la Paula Abdul) I bet they insisted on a slightly more bitchy judge. She really gave it to them all down the line right away. I'm glad she's there, it'll be more interesting this season.
I'm no longer enamored of Fatima. She does remind me a little of Iman, but I'm over her already.
I still like Claire, and I'm fascinated by the one who's face photographed so well. I don't remember her name, but they couldn't get over her photo. She was very pale, dark hair, and had striking lips.
Who was the girl who wore that awesome black hat during the runway show? I couldn't tell...I thought she was the best in the show.
I didn't really like the homeless photo shoot either--seems a bit Marie Antoinette-ish.
I hated the homeless photo shoot too. Stupid idea, and I don't think it was successful.
I think the one I'm talking about that I like is Aimee.
If you know anything about the show, you could have seen that Atalya was going to be the one to leave because you could tell that this episode she was getting her "screen time". All the quotes and comments that could have been said by ANYONE went to her.
Still I can not BELIEVE that Kim left and they still sent someone home.
Look for something like Cycle 5 where they didn't send anyone home one week!
Ok, so I'm a little late for last week's recap, but you know what they say, "Better Nate than lever". HAHAHAHA!!! Honestly, am I the only person who knows that rather long lame joke? It was friggin' hilarious when I was 10. Seriously.
Ready? OK!
I'm not sure I like the new music video opening. It just looks like a lot of time and effort went into it, especially for those girls who are only in like, two episodes. With all the shaky cam and quick cutaways, you barely have time to laugh at them. Jeez...
Fatima and her cootchie. Again. Obviously, we're going to be forced to visualize her nether regions all season. And didn't I totally call out her skank attitude? Even she noticed it by the end. I doubt her self-awareness will last very long, however. And what was up with that weird editing? Early on, there was a shot of her with gorgeous straight hair (when she was offending yet someone else in the house) and immediately afterwards it was all kinky and nasty again. Are we led to believe she crimps the hell out of her hair on purpose??? Bitch needs to look in a mirror before coppin' 'tude again. For real.
Atalya got all mad because there was a no smoking sign on the door to the apartment and the girls "had the nerve" to smoke outside. Well, it's a good thing she didn't have to stick around for the all that gall and injustice, isn't it?
Amis explained how Tyra forced her to change her name and proved herself to be a LIAR. She said it was a name from the Bible. Did she also realize it rhymes with "anus"? HAHAHAHAHA!!! Anyway, Anus is pretty clueless, so I doubt I get to have fun with that for much longer.
Marvita got mad at Fatima. Sob story, apologies... Blah blah blah. All better, for now... Honestly, Marvita has MUCH more to worry about than Fatima's snobbery. Like her walk. Or her look. Or her poses. Or her...well, you get the drift.
Still waiting for Anya to grow on me. For now, every time she speaks, my eyes glaze over like fresh Krispy Kremes.
Absolutely everyone thinks Dominique looks like a drag queen. Miss Jay's drag voice had me in stitches! Anyone else reminded of Coryn from Cycle 5?
The runway was fun, but Lauren is more than a fish out of water. She's being filleted, battered, deep-fried and served up at your local Long John Silver's. I just hope she can pull it together because I would love to see that transformation. Whitney, Fatima and Claire rocked that runway.
Claire's awesome. I love her 80s hair. Breast milk must be working for her.
Stacy Ann just makes me laugh. I mean, is she for real?
So what was up with that homeless photo shoot? I'm sure there was a point, but it was completely lost. Tyra explained she was inspired by her spending a day as a homeless person. A WHOLE DAY! Like, sometime after breakfast, she put on some distressed clothes and some theatrically smudged makeup and hung around on the sidewalk until the afternoon, after which she chowed down on a couple of steaks and went home to knock back some mojitos and sleep in her warm cozy bed in her penthouse. She explains how tough it was and how much perspective she now has on all those people she used to ignore. Now she acknowledges them with a quick wave as she runs by holding her nose. Tyra is such a humanitarian, y'all. Shut up, she is! Anyway, she allowed a couple of homeless girls to be made up and sit in the background while the models posed in Le Couture des Miserables. Honestly, homeless chic is so five years ago. Urine-tinted jeans, trucker caps and wrinkly untucked button-downs have been around for a while. Been there, done that. I think Tyra's lost her touch.
Ok, so Kim Witherspoon. *sigh* I love how Tyra reminded her about the casting not so long ago and the girls who weren't given the opportunity to be in her shoes and yadda-yadda guilt trip and Kim basically responded with, "Yeah, ok...um, but...so?" Kim doesn't believe in fashion. She obviously never watched Paris is Burning, the documentary on which this show is based.
Still I can not BELIEVE that Kim left and they still sent someone home.
Well, they had to make up for that extra episode caused when they accepted the two Amys! Because like the bombing of Baghdad, it was totally spontaneous and unplanned. It's not like they had extra room in the loft. Well, they did, but that's not the point. Whatever, SHUT UP! Anyway, the producers reminded the judges about the number of episodes budgeted for the season right after casting, so Witherspoon's departure was nothing but a big "PHEW!"
Paulina's the new judge in case you didn't see that one coming. I wonder how many takes it took for the girls to act surprised. Twelve?
And I love Miss Jay's vest of velcrocity. Bitch can't rip those names off fast enough. And it makes such a satisfying sound.
YAY!
Mister Matt..
OMG!! That was brillant.
:))
Loved it Mr. Matt! This week it was pretty obvious who would go home because they really focused on her. So- what do you think of the makeovers? I loved most of them! No one cried though!
