American Girls Books/Dolls

Anyone here used to be an American Girls fan (Kaya, Felicity, Josefina, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, Kit, Molly)?

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

When I was younger I had Josefina and almost all of the books.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

I read some of the books, but mostly I was just fascinated by the doll catalogue. That stuff was expensive, and so detailed my inner obsessive-compulsive was leaping in joy.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

I adored the American Girls! I can't pick a favorite, but I'll always have a special place for Kirsten, because my grandmother got me a Kirsten doll for Christmas not long before she died.
Anyone remember when there were only three AGs? And, for extra credit, which ones were they?

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

I'm going to say Samantha was one of them, even though I'm not sure Samantha is even one of their names...

Then Felicity and Molly, maybe?

I think it was Felicity, Samantha, and Addy.

Ooh, American Girls. Used to love them. I have Felicity, Addy, and Josefina. I remember when there used to be...five, I think. And they kept adding and I was sad because I only wanted there to be five.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

Recently I when I went to NYC I had to stop at the American Girl store, even though I am a bit old for the stuff there. I never got a big doll, but I have the Samantha and Felicity mini dolls. I even entered an American Girl collection in one of those country fairs and won best in show for collections. I had a lot of AG stuff, except the doll of course. I remember in the catalogue you could order the complete collection of the AG Doll, and it cost $900-1000. Way exspensive!

It's really insane! And if an outfit isn't being made anymore, they go for SO much money on eBay! My aunt payed over $500 for an outfit.

I was obsessed with American Girls! Samantha, Kirsten, and Molly were the originals. I remember whe they came out with Felicity, Addy, and Josephina.

Aw, I used to be so into those! I still have my Molly, but she just sits on a shelf in my Daddy's house now. I used to require one thing from that catalogue every Christmas...meaning I'd usually end up with a tiny glove or something. I realize now that while my parents seemed generous, they were really just glad I had such easy requests. I never got any of the furniture...plenty of nightgowns, though.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

I have one of the original Samantha's. They've sinced changed her hair color (shortly after I got mine). The original doll had hair the color of Molly's. I used to have all of her clothes/accesories and was going to keep to give to my little girl one day. Now there is so much merchandise I can't even begin to catch up.

Here is a pic that we took at the store on 5th Ave. My boyfriend calls it Attack of the American Girl Doll Clones. He thinks it looks like they're forming a mini-army. It is pretty creepy when you think about it!

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

I had (well, have; they're in storage now) quite a few: Felicity, Kirsten, Josefina, Addy and an AG of Today. I just went to their website and had a lovely walk down Memmory Lane.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

Oh, other AG freaks! yay!! This thread made me dig out my old Felicity doll that I got almost 10 years ago. I wanted Felicitys WHOLE collectioon, but I had to content myself with my doll and the 6-book set. Felicity was aLways the coolest to me, and I also loved Kirsten. Samantha seemd like too much of a snob to me, and Molly was a nerd =P I HAVE to check out That huge store next time i'm in NYC!!!

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

I have Samantha, Kirsten, Felicity, and Addy. They must be up in my attic, I haven't seen them in ages! The company has grown SO much since I had mine; I love looking through the catalog.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

When I was little they didn't have Addy yet. I had Kirsten and Samantha though...then one of the baby dolls...and eventually one that was supposed to be made to look like me but I got it with red hair instead because I wanted red hair.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

I got published in the magazine one time, but it was only for a corny little joke.

I just have to laugh at some of the advice they give out now, though.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

i LOVE AGs! I got one every Christmas starting when i was 4. I now have Samantha (she is the old one with the light hair...and her hair isn't even curly anymore), Felicity, Addy, Molly, a girl of today, and a bitty baby. I still dress them up for each season, like they all have their christmas dresses and school outfits and everything. i am such a dork!

i am NOT happy with the way the company has been going. when i got my first doll, it was in the original three, and addy was added soon after that. ever since Mattel bought the company, it's been going downhill. Felicity is probably my favorite in terms of clothes, but they have practically killed her off--she doesn't appear in the catalogues or anything. and instead of adding new historical dolls, they just keep expanding the girl of today collection. when i was little, the books and the historical aspect was my favorite part, and they've practically phased that out. it makes me sad, and also very angry. okay, i'll shut up now.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

Oh, I LOVED these things! I have all the books and a Kirsten mini doll. I think Josefina, Felicity and Kirsten were my favorites.

Confession: I have the Blue mini room sitting on the corner of my desk. I love little things like that. It's so nifty, and the window looks out onto NYC.

re: American Girls Books/Dolls

Oh, I so was. Etheb and I were feeling some nostalgia today when we whipped out my dolls. Felicity was definitely my favorite.
