Sue, he didn't screw up the words. That version of the song has those lyric changes.

Yes that song was done by a 500 pound Hawaiian on one of his albums in a ukelele-accompanied arrangement. It was a moderate hit 7 or 8 years ago when it was used in a commercial for the Toys.com website. More people bought the CD than the toys

Here he is. Wonder why he didn't score big on MTV?

Interesting....I always loved that version of the song. I've heard it many times on tv and in movies, but I never knew who sang it.

Now "Angels" is another story altogether. Simon was right- there is NO REASON that wasn't a #1 record in the US like it was in every other English-Speaking (and quite a few others) country in the world. The BBC or someone did a poll in England and it was selected as one of the top five songs of all TIME. It's also the most popular song played at funerals in the UK.

And it's not cause the singer wasn't photogenic, either.

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was also featured on that episode of ER where Mark Greene finally died.

Jessica Simpson did a cover of "Angels" a few years ago. It was released in the US but did not become a hit.

"Sue, he didn't screw up the words. That version of the song has those lyric changes."

I realize that NOW, but it makes no sense. Most of the people watching the show probably thought, as I did, that he f'd up. Numerous times. I didn't mind the arrangement, hell, after Katherine Mc"ME"'s over-sung, overpraised mess a couple of years ago, it was rather refreshing. I just wish he had sung the real words. No reason he HAD to do the lyric changes as the Hawaiian guy did.

PEACE.

This is in no way an attack, but I'm very surprised that you thought it was a mistake, as I was under the impression more people were familiar with that song. It did always bother me too, though.

At least he didn't do the opening "Oooo-oooo-ooooo-oooo-oo-oo-oooooo...."s Updated On: 4/8/08 at 10:00 PM

Just started watching; Syesha has a decent voice, but there is no emotion when she sings. I think Diana Degarmo even did a better version of that song than Syesha. She needs to go soon.

I've got to weigh in on Archuleta's Angels.

This is one of my favorite pop songs of all time. I still cannot fathom how this was not a monster hit in the U.S., like it was everywhere else. I believe that Archuleta's performance tonight will finally bring this underappreciated gem to a new audience of millions (heaven knows that Jessica Simpson couldn't make it happen). It would not surprise me if this is the number one downloaded song on iTunes this week. I just hope that Robbie Williams' original single will also be rediscovered (it is truly a masterpiece).

This is the kind of thing that makes me love AI.

I'm just glad to read that someone else on the planet thought McPhee was overpraised.

I'm watching the show now and I'm shocked at my own reaction to jason. Didn't like it. I've heard that original version of the song and it was much much better. Plus he didn't sing the right words and that bothered me.

On to the next....

I didnt like his performance very much either.

All of them were just so-so for me.

I agree no-one really had a fantastic performance. Overall this has been quite a boring season. I was disappointed with David Cook- was the key to low for him or is that how the song goes. He sounded ok in parts, but other sections it seemed to low.

Why Kelly Clarkson will always be the true American Idol...

I still believe that David Cook at his worst can out sing David Archuleta any day!! I just can't get behind that little boy, I don't get it. I also really enjoyed Jason singing Iz's version of OTR.
Oh yea, and someone mentioned something about no one getting kicked off this week?? They are doing that tomorrow night (Thursday).

I think the reason I was a huge Archuleta fan in the beginning was that I followed him all through the Star Search season, where he really did stand out talent-wise. I think he came in second. So I was happy to see him on AI. However, a little of him goes a long way, and now I'm tired of his voice.

I don't care who wins now.
