Phyllis, in case you haven't noticed, the world and the music industry changed quite a bit over the years. You either adjust to it, or you become some old moaner that is longing for the past.

I used to be the first category, until I experienced this clip.

Now that you mention it, it does feel like "time traveling". Can you imagine Julie Andrews being in a clip like this?

NYadgal, what is wrong with a retard? Not so negative please. Nicki Minaj just looks like one in this video. The fact that I don't like her imitating them and swears while doing it is my personal opinion, but we shouldn't "not mention them" ever.

Jay-Lerner, I said I found the Black reel awards racist, because I think there is no need for separation based on race. Especially when 9% of the North American people are African American and 12 % of the regular Oscar Winners is. People who still think separate awards are needed are the racist here. Including you?

It's not that there are no such people as "retards" or that we shouldn't mention or acknowledge them, but that we can't call them "retards" anymore. It's insensitive, and it's outdated. The term refers to a broad-strokes diagnosis of mental retardation that is now considered to be both medically vague and insensitive as a misused slur.

Yes, mental retardation is still a thing. I work in a government bureau in which legal/medical terminology frequently includes "PMR- person with mental retardation" or "mentally retarded individual." The individuals, broadly speaking, are mentally retarded- mentally impaired from achieving the level of development they are expected to by their age level. But they aren't "retards," or even "retarded." That word has been misused until it means something else, and that something is not especially applicable to my job description.
