We're gearing up for the Miss Georgia pageant right now. Last year, in an effort to reach out in the community, someone came up with the brilliant idea of having our local winner, Ms. Columbus, come into my bookstore and read a children's story to some local second graders. The children filed in and sat on the floor. Ms. Columbus came in, in a very short skirt, put on her crown and sat down on a couch to read to the children. Unfortunately, in all of her pageant training, apparently no one had ever told her that it is best to keep one's knees together when sitting in a short skirt. So there she was - giving beaver shots to schoolchildren.
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to this year's competition.
And no one grew into anything new, we just became the worst of what we were."
