You know I have to admit this thread inspired me to YouTube some Annie...
BUT I have ended up listening to all the stuff that was cut out of the movie (We'ed Like to Thank You Herbert Hoover, NYC, New Deal for Christmas).
It has occured to me all my favorite stuff was the stuff that was cut!
"NYC" rocks, and I love that Marshall got Andrea McArdle to play "Star to Be." I really do enjoy Marshall's version even if I wish he had gotten someone else to play Miss Hannigan.
And whoever decided that ANNIE had to have a car chase or whatever chase they have at the end?
The same people who added the awful chariot chase to the end of Forum, probably.
I liked the energy in the 1982 film. It was ok, but not great. I do prefer Burnett to Bates, however. Overall, I think the television production is much better, though Bates' performance was just so bland. She was like Hannigan on Demerol. And yeah, Aileen Quinn wasn't that good, but she's Katherine Hepburn compared to that girl in the Broadway revival. YEESH! Watching her sing Tomorrow on the Tonys was far more painful than any moment in the 1982 film.
The film's star went on, I believe, to a starring role on ARCHIE BUNKER'S PLACE after Jean Stapleton left ALL IN THE FAMILY.
You're thinking of Danielle Brisebois. She was the original Molly in Annie on Broadway. She then went on to play Stephanie Mills in All in the Family and continued the character in Archie Bunker's Place. She was not in the film version of Annie.
Speaking of Annie, the National Tour is coming through DC next week. There already selling discounted tickets to it this week. Nothing could be as wretched as the revival in the late 90s.
Mr. Matt, you are correct sir. Sorry for the slip. I saw the Martin Charnin-directed revival tour a couple of years back and it was pretty good...I bet he did this current tour too. MTI is about to do a scrapbook of memorablia to celebrate ANNIE composer Charles Strouse's 80th Birthday if anyone wants to send something in.....
mmouse,
Why do you say in one thread that you've been here before and then in this thread claim to be new?
Socky McSockerton?
not sure what "claim to be new" you mean.
"Stop assuming, just because this nick is new, that I don't know "the ways" around BWW."
The "nick"name is new, but my time here is long.
Then why don't you tell us who you WERE?
Or is that too shameful?
No shame in who I was, but I prefer to keep it to myself. There is no reason for me or anyone else to justify themselves to you. This is the last time I'll discuss anything with you in public; PM me or just know I'll ignore you.

LOL @ this interview with Aileen Quinn (Annie)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7c5JMOIdvo
Bill Cosby is creepy.
Interesting trivia:
Among the loveable moppets playing those singin' and dancin' orphans are "Toy Soldiers" singer Martika and future SAW skank Shawnee Smith.
Oh, that Aileen Quinn! There was a nationwide search for the new Annie and all I can say is...1982 must have been a leeeeeeeeeean year for child actors. Maybe they should have just had Henry Thomas in drag with Marni Nixon dubbing the singing.
And the 1982 movie did inspire that wonderful scene in SERIAL MOM. So at least something good came out of it.
nmousefan at home?
That interview by Bill Cosby was disgusting. Shame on him!
Until Best12bars comes to visit....
Totally.
I enjoyed the film. I have seen Annie on the stage and I still prefer the film. IMO!!!
