I just bought this at Borders because it seemed really interesting...did anyone read it? What did you think?

I was about to buy it, but the trashing it received from EW gave me pause. It really made me wonder, how much trauma can one man have to have written five books about his life, without more and more of the tale veering towards fiction and/or dramatic license?

After I read his interview in NY Magazine, I was very curious. I bought it yesterday....didn't start reading it yet myself. He really didn't focus on the father in "Running With Scissors" but we knew that he was an alcoholic and didn't pay much attention to his son. It will be interesting to hear about the father in more detail....

I think he needs to get over himself. This is his third "woe is me" book, and he's like that friend everyone has who likes to wallow in self pity. Annoying.

I probably wouldn't feel so strongly about it if he was honest, but there have been so accusations on his veracity and exagerations that I feel like he's just milking it for profit.

I've read all of his books and "Wolf at the Table" is certainly the deepest and darkest of the bunch. It's a fast read but the subject matter is extremely intense - it doesn't aim to amuse or entertain like his previous books. His father really was quite a horrible man.

Yes, it is a bit self-indulgent to keep writing personal memoirs like this, so if you want a break from the "woe is me" but still enjoy his writing style, try reading "Sellevision," his novel. It's a fun and quirky read.

I love his books. I never much cared either way if they embellished the truth, they're a good, entertaining read.
I just got 'A Wolf at the Table' in the mail from Amazon today and can't wait to start.
