A mysterious gas odor is being smelled all over Manhattan. Odd, very odd.
The security dept in my office building sent out an email a few minutes ago, but I can't smell anything. Now they're saying it's because of a gas leak in Chelsea?
My station smelled more urine-ish than usually this morning. Was it a uric acid leak?
Bloomberg is having a live press conference soon
First maple syrup, now gas?
Our building just made an announcement that an investigation is under way.
I smelled it on the street outside at Rockefeller Center but not inside my office.
SH*T. My doorman was wearing a oxygen mask last night. I thought it was kind of odd, but I didn't ask why.
They are blaming Jersey City...isnt that cliche?
No they aren't
"A report from Jersey City's mayor says they have pinpointed the smell to West 10th and Bleeker Street in Manhattan. Apparently, at the address of 191 West 10th Street at the corner of Bleeker, there is construction going on and firefighters have apparently been in that area at least twice today to check things out. They have not pinpointed any problem at that site."
Burritos?
I'm in midtown east now, and we were told to stay inside with all windows closed. You can smell it from here.
Great. I haven't seen Dreamgirls yet.
We just got this notice from building management.

The natural gas odor external to our building has dissipated. The source is still unknown. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide any updated information.

I smell it at the office (40th and Park)...they have made multiple announcements that they are looking into it and trying to solve the problem. They turned off the fans to reduce the amount of outside air coming into the building. Don't know what the hell this is, but it's kind of weird and a bit scary.

"Early reports indicated that the odor is widespread throughout Manhattan, from Battery Park City to Upper Manhattan, and in various parts of New Jersey."
We don't smell anything in the Financial District and the windows are open as it's very warm in here.
Actually - people aren't smelling "natural" gas. Natural gas has no smell. What people are smelling is clearly natural gas that has been given the additive that gas companies give so that you CAN smell it if there is a leak. So whatever this is - it's coming from a manmade source, not geological. Not that we had any doubts

I'm inside but is this happening in Brooklyn or just Manhattan?
the mayor just assured everyone that the gas is not harmful. I'm not going to work yet. I hope they find out soon. I live blocks from where they said it began in the w. village.
I am in midtown and there was one window open in my house and I had to close it because of the smell.
Actually, they are still looking at Jersey City as a possibility, and I just read a report that it is unlikely that the W. 10th leak could cover such a large area.
I didnt say it was fact, but that it was reported as a possibility.
If it's at a construction site, I'll bet you 20,000 more troops to Iraq that some idiot with a backho cut into a gas main.
I live on W. 10 St. and never smelled a thing.
Well, given everyone's penchant for blaming it on Manhattan, it probably did start in Jersey. They smelled it first and you know how that old adage goes.

We can solve this mystery very quickly:
Where does your coworker live, Singer?
He who smelt it, dealt it...she who denies it, supplies it.
