I am sure it is different for one or two timers to Raul's contract. He is a regular this season.

That was Law & Order: Original Recipe and I only remember that because the accuser was Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee.

Yeah, he played a blackmailer in the last season of "the mothership" Law and Order, and if I remember correctly he also popped up shortly before that on Criminal Intent too.

I'm not really a fan of his character in this season, though.

Like they care on L&O. Sara Ramirez played a hooker on one episode and the mother of a little boy who killed a little girl on another, both on SVU. lol

The story was a very dark gay male muderer plotline - RAUL playing one of the lawyers but a rather mature gay story uncensored for the NBC Network. Very well done show. Life immitating art, or vv?

You might be thinking of the one where he played a split personality, borstal, and the dominant personality was a murderous woman. Raul in drag, or better still, Raul "switching" to the murderous woman for the confession certainly had me on the floor.

Yes, last night's episode was particularly dark. A truly disturbing/distubed villain, with Raul and Nia Vardalos slugging it out as "anything for the win" lawyers.

Oh GOD! The guest stint that involved destroying the life of Eames (God love that Katie Erbe...she should get an award for putting up with all the crazy SH*T she does).

Raul getting all DRESSED TO KILL in the final scene is one of the great laughs I've had in my life. She COMMITTED!

You bet your ass I'm watching. And enjoying the weird cognitive dissonance of the whole thing. I like the character -- it's a part that was written for him, so it's really tailored to everything he does well. Over the top, sarcastic, tenacious, sharp (belt around his neck in the courtroom, anyone?). And as is my wont, majorly, majorly digging the suspenders.

He's been in a handful of episodes since a few into the current season. He's not in all of them, but he's around a lot. The showrunner for SVU did the 100th incarnation of the book for Leap of Faith, and they needed a new ADA, so in came Barba.

The two one-offs he did a while ago were on the regular L&O and on CI. There's the cross-dressing one, and then there was the one where he played the journalist, with the strangling and the sex tape. Can't remember which is which.

I hadn't watched a lot of SVU before this, but can I also just say, oh em gee Mariska Hargitay? Yes? Good.
