I remember when this same topic gave birth to the 'adults/smoke' thread - now on version 16!
I remember our telephone extension was BElmont but I can't remember the number anymore. My grandpa had a party line but we never did.
My other grandparents had a high school next door to their house and we could sit in the back yard and watch baseball games over there. Right behind their house was a Dairy Queen and we would walk over in the evening for a treat. My grandmother always got the same thing - a lemon soda. Now I wonder how many years it's been since Dairy Queen offered sodas - let alone lemon sodas!

When Elementary Schools has "actual" playground equipment?
I remember having all sorts of fun things to play on: slides, monkey bars, a climbing thing called The Rocket, swings. Now at least at the school I went to, they've deleted them all for fear of being sued if a child got hurt. Or, I've been told Recess has been cut down to virtually nothing, to make room for more schooling. Please!

"We dialed 4 numbers to reach our neighbors."
I remember that. But we dialed 5 numbers: the last digit of the 3 digit local exchange, then the 4 numbers of the house.
Does anyone remember days before zip codes?
An address would read: New York 27, NY
Also I'm old enough to remember at school we drank milk from paper straws rather than plastic. And our school bus had metal bars on the back of every seat (something that was spoofed in an episode of The Simpsons).

Our phone number was VIking-3-7802 in Kansas. I also remember when we stopped saying "Viking" and started saying "843-7802."
Our exchange in NYC (pre-1966) was TRafalgar, but I'm too young to remember that number, thank God.
I remember when we started using ZIP codes on letters too.
I remember the TV repair man coming to the house.
I remember the milk being delivered twice a week to our milk box on the front porch.
I remember when there were 3-5 TV channels, with an antenna, and no cable TV.
I remember when cigarettes were 50 cents a pack, and gas was 35 cents a gallon.
I remember when TV shows bragged about being broadcast "in living color." And I remember our first color TV.
I remember when movie tickets were 75 cents for kids, and $1.50 for adults.

We had that too. Milk was delivered in bottles. I wish my parents had kept that milk box. Long after delivery ended, we used to play with it.
I remember when school lunch boxes were made of metal and the designs on them were the Saturday morning cartoon lineup. Inside was a thermos that had a glass interior. Any kid that broke the inside of their thermos had to face very mad parents.

Yenta, we lived in the same town, but I remember when our telephones were all operator assisted. We picked up our phone and waited for the inimical "Number, please!"
And our exchange was "BEllport 7". It later changed to ATlantic 6".
