I spent years in Colorado, and truly got sick of hearing about this insane drama. And now, here we are having it crammed down our throats again.

My heart aches for the hundreds, if not thousands, of families that have had to deal with misfortune like this in their lives - while absolutely NO ONE gave a sh*t because they weren't upper middle class whites.

And I STILL WANT TO KNOW why so many people salivate and drool over every little aspect and detail of this sordid drama! Are you looking for info that can help you protect your own little beauty queen? What difference does it make to you WHAT is going on with this situation?

It's disturbing, at best, that so much attention is being focussed on this with all there is going on in the world - even in our own backyards.

I just had a discussion about that very thing with friends. I think it's because the case is essentially a murder mystery, and everyone loves a mystery. I don't think that it's because she happened to be from a wealthy family--there have been highly-publicized murders that had poor or middle-class victims. At least that's not why the case fascinates me. The reason I follow this case is because I've always been interested in criminology and especially profiling, and I find the minutae of this case very compelling.
My friends were somewhat combative. Their opinion seemed to be, "she was rich, so who cares that she died?" Or, "why are so many people mourning her? If you're going to cry for one of these things, you have to cry for them all and we don't have the energy." One even had the gall to say "I know she would have grown up to be a b#tch. Do we really need another one of those in the world?" and I really let him have it for that. Regardless of how you feel about this whole mess, that is an absolutely disgusting thing to say.
I'm sorry if I sound defensive, but I have to ask: Why is it "wrong" to care about or be interested in this? And I don't mean to say that you, DG, are saying this; that's just a common perception I've been getting from some people like my friends and I don't get it.

rumor has it that he had a Deanna Troi action figure in his pocket, worn smooth from repeated fondling.

Some of you really need to do some reading on this case before you spout off opinions as fact. We didn't hear about this because this guy wanted to get out of a Thai prison and he wasn't arrested because the Ramseys are wealthy and pinned the murder on him. Come on now.

This guy has been communicating with a professor in Boulder, Colorado for over two years. This professor has done documentaries on the Ramsey case and this guy contacted him, resulting in hundreds of emails and contact for years. This professor is the one who finally contacted police when he began to suspect that Karr was involved in the crime and not simply someone who was interested in it. He became the focus of an investigation several months ago.

He may very well NOT be the one who killed JonBenet but there's really no downside to arresting and extraditing someone who confesses, truthfully or falsely, to such a crime. At least he's in custody and they can continue the investigation.

I think that the national attention this case received came from several key points of the story.
~It happened on Christmas day.
~The parents were the initial prime suspects.
~People are just fascinated and appalled by child beauty pageants. This was one of the first cases of a major tragedy befell a child beauty queen and I think some people felt that an "I told you so" was in order.
~Then there was the fact that the parents were on TV talking about it at every opportunity and the fact that the press just wouldn't let it go.

We were all raised in a TV world. We are used to either Perry Mason, Ben Matlock or Jack McCoy finding the real killer in the end. It's the same in the OJ case. The fact that no one came running in with proof just confused the hell out of me. I know for me it was the fact that the Ramsey killer remained a mystery. I will admit I had pretty much forgotten all about the case until Patsy died earlier this year.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
