If I may add my useless nine-degrees-of-Kevin-
Bacon comment, my sister in law is an Assistant DA in CO, and SHE says that the investigators that she knows and respects most in her region are unanimous in their belief that the parents did NOT do it.

John Douglas' book "The Cases That Haunt Us" has an in-depth chapter on the case. He spent some time on the case and his opinion was that the Ramseys had no involvement in their daughter's death.
In analyzing their behavior, past and present, he says that there was absolutely nothing in either's history to indicate that they were capable of doing such awful things to their child.

I think either the parents did it, or someone else.
(That should satisfy both spectrums.)

Haha I agree that that quote is strange.
I'm happy that they've had a breakthrough though. There are some child kidnapping cases I really become attached to-- JonBenet and Elizabeth Smart were the two I followed the most, so this is good news.

If you want to hear the best Patsy Ramsey song ever (and perhaps the only one), look no further than the third option ("Patsy Ramsey") on the myspace of one of my new favorite bands, The Size Queens. "Patsy Ramsey" is a beautiful-sounding, wacked out critique of American cultural obsessions that somehow seems more appropriate today (I mean, literally TODAY) than ever.
After you've digested that, give a listen to "Goodbye Soldier," arguably the first alt-country funeral protest song sung from the point of view of Fred Phelps.
"No Hooks Supermodel" is like a missing Hedwig song.
I HEART The Size Queens.

Now, I always found the beauty pageant thing pretty objectionable, and I can't claim to have followed the case all that closely...but every time I stood in line at a supermarket and saw hideous headlines about JonBenet and her parents years after the child died, it always bothered me. What must it have been like to have lost your child, still be "convicted" of the murder and everything else under the sun in the tabloids, and know you didn't do it.
Patsy Ramsey's life ended ten years ago; not last month.

... Wow.

The idea that it was an accidental death ALWAYS played into the case, even when the primary suspects where John and Patsy. The ransom note and the DNA evidence made it seem like a kidnapping and/or rape gone bad. Most likely JonBenet screamed too loudly and this guy killed her to stop the screaming. I honestly can't believe that they caught this guy. I did a thesis on this case and for sure thought it would end up one of the unsolved mysteries of all-time. The Boulder PD botched the investigation so bad that I thought whoever did it (even if it was the parents) would get away with it forever.
How badly I feel now that I always suspected that Patsy did it. Unfortunately she isn't here now that her name is cleared and to see justice take its course for her daughter's killer but the articles say that she knew the police were trailing this guy so perhaps she knew.

Posted: 8/17/06 at 9:19amOne thing in particular I'd like to know is why this guy was asking for $118,000 in ransom. That's an odd number - not a lot for ransom, let alone from a rich family, and not a round number - and it's also the approximate value of John Ramsey's 1996 Christmas bonus. Perhaps this guy was stalking the Ramseys and knew this?

Posted: 8/17/06 at 12:44pmYep. I think this is all way more complicated even than it already seems to be. Something is just not adding up. I know we're not privy to all of the information, but it almost seems like he might just be another weirdo, but not necessarily JonBenet's killer.

According to CNN.com, he has confessed to accidentally killing her after having sex with her. He has confessed to initially wanting a ransom. He had written a letter to Patsy Ramsey months ago apologizing. Makes plenty of sense to me.
This is the problem with our society these days. Based on little news coverage we deem ourselves judge and jury and KNOW KNOW KNOW who is guilty and who isn't. Oh Michael Jackson did it!!!! Oh Terri Schiavo would have wanted to live!!!!! Kobe Bryant did it!!!!!! Patsy Ramsey is guilty guilty guilty!!!!
And that's such BS as these events show. SOOOO many people have mocked Patsy Ramsey. So many people were just certain she killed her daughter. Well, I hope all of those people--especially those who convicted in the media feel like ****. Because you all sent a woman to her grave as a "guilty" woman.
#45re: Arrest in Jonbenet Ramsay Case
Posted: 8/17/06 at 1:04pmI hope he IS the guy. I just can't help but be a little skeptical and think that a confession doesn't necessarily make it so.

I'm curious what the reason would be for a false confession.
It sounds like he was hiding out in Thailand (which is a popular place for pedophiles) and an undercover cop developed an online friendship with him. The cop earned the guy's trust and he revealed details only the killer would know. Then they arrested him and he revealed more information.

What's not adding up? How many facts are there yet?
I love how a man who has confessed to the crime is being given more of an "innocent until proven guilty" consideration than the mother was.
