Unless of course there is a major act of terrorism that you were warned about and ignored - then it is your predecessors fault.

BTW, the stock market closed at 7,920.66 on the day Obama was sworn in to office. At that time, we were over shedding 700,000 jobs a month.

Carmona said she created the policy six years ago after watching students bring "bottles of soda and flaming hot chips" on field trips for their lunch. Although she would not name any other schools that employ such practices, she said it was fairly common.

Six years ago? Why didn't Bush and Cheney throw off the yoke of government oppression back when it was starting?

No, that's not entirely true, Craig. It's more like "ignore the past when it's convenient". Goth has no problem dredging up past Democratic failings or trotting out policy as long as it proves his point. The thing is, someone does the same trick to him and he either ignores it or vanishes.

You fail to see that the deficit is as large as it is because of previous history. It's not like we were running even CLOSE to the black and then Obama caused a huge deficit.

It has nothing to do with her. It has everything to do with the government interfering in what should be personal matters. The problem is that she and her husband think they have the moral ground to tell everyone else how to live their lives.

Republicans don't seem to mind when conservative Christians do it, so...what's the problem again?

Funny how you blame it on "history" when a Democrat has messed things up. When you don't like what a Republican is doing, then it becomes their problem.

What's your excuse for the Democrats not passing a budget?

Can you show me where I blamed the Republicans OR Democrats for the deficit? My comment was that HISTORY is to blame. That means both parties. See - unlike you - I can be objective when looking at the big picture. I don't have to point the finger at one party over the other when it comes to something like the deficit.

BOTH parties are to blame. Period. But that's not what you started your argument with, now is it. You want to blame Obama. You can't. Obama's merely a contributing factor.

The current state of Washington really is due to both parties refusing to act for the good of anything other than themselves.

No Kad- the budget problems can be laid on two republican failings: First the insistence on lowering taxes that are already at historic lows. If Paul Ryan's "road map" is approved, top bracket taxes will be at their lowest since the income tax began in the 1930's. Republicans claim this will somehow be "revenue neutral" even though our wealthiest citizens will be paying about ONE THIRD less than they do now.

The second failing is running two extraordinarily expensive wars "off-budget"- that is not tracking or reporting these expenses as part of the debt. When President Obama took office, Republicans were able to blast him for immediately bloating the budget by merely reporting what had been spent by his predecessor.

Once again, the Democrats were supposed to pass a budget last year and did not do that. All of this budget angst would have been avoided if they were doing their job. Then when voters get mad and give the House back to the GOP, Democrats do their best "seniors are going to die and the poor will go hungry" routine.

Also - can you respond to the point brought up that BOTH parties are to blame. Or are you definitively stating it's 100 percent the Democrat's fault and Republicans have NO blame whatsoever?

First off, you respond to two facts:

1. When Obama became POTUS he had control of both the House and Senate. He had from January 2009 to January 2011 to get things under control.

2. Prior to January 2011 when the GOP took control of the House, Democrats were supposed to pass a budget and did not.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Congrats Goth, you have mastered the Republican talking point: You have repeatedly stated that if Barack Obama had passed a budget earlier we would not have been in this situation in April. If it makes you feel better I will state plainly and openly that I wholeheartedly agree. You are correct! All better?

Of course the issue is "Why didn't we pass this budget when the President submitted it in September?" Because Republicans would not accept it. Remember that whole fricassee about the Bush tax increases that were scheduled to go into effect in January? The months of filibuster threats? That was all part of this budget fight. Ringing any bells? I remember it well.

So YOU ARE CORRECT- we WOULD NOT have had this horrible fight in April if we had passed the budget in September- we would have had it in September.

I have no idea what you want me to respond to. I have stated (more than once now) that both parties are to blame. And then I threw it back to you to see what your response was.

And as Joe has illustrated - there's cause and effect. But it appears you just want to talk about this second in time and (again) disregard the past.

No both parties are not to blame. The Democrats have had 2 full years of unfettered control. In addition, when Bush was still POTUS, he pretty much signed anything that they sent him. One criticism I have of Bush was the beginning of TARP. So Democrats have pretty much had complete control of the purse strings for the last four years. But come April 2011, the Democrats try and blame the Republicans for killing seniors and letting the poor starve. Not going to accept that at all. The Democrats are the cause for all the mess we are currently in.

Ok - now I know where you stand. And I disagree completely. So there's no point in having a logical discussion with you because you're never going to convince me that both parties played a role - and clearly I'll never convince you that they did.

And BUSH had six years with a Republican Congress- and did not produce anything NEAR a balanced budget- much less one that paid down the deficit.
