And as for killing seniors and letting the poor starve? You're right- Republican polices have done so and will again. For example, until FDR launched his massive "new deal" legislation, Senior Citizens had an incredibly rough time of it. That's why in 1932, more than a third of them lived in poverty, ate poorly, had little or no medical care and died. Life expectancies have increased by nearly THIRTY YEARS this century, partly due to better vaccines and medical treatment and partly due to better nutrition and living conditions. And ALL those things are directly attributed to progressive democratic policies which the Republicans of today want to rollback. It really does not get any more black and white than that.

Oh Madbrian, don't confuse the Republican with facts. They are all about the truthiness.

And Namo- the film is all about the Conservatives wanting to build HIGH SPEED RAIL and the dopey liberals blocking them at every turn. How timely is that!

Atlas has long since lost it's luster for me but I still love Fountainhead and read it from time to time- Much in the same way (and for the same reasons) I love Valley of the Dolls.

I'm not sure what the film is about, I'll see soon. But the story is not about that.

It's not even gonna make the top ten. To be fair, I don't think it opened in that many theaters but then again,nor did Redford's THE CONSPIRATOR(which only opened in 700 theatres but still made the top ten)

Of Course the GOD AWFUL reviews ATLAS is receiving is sure not helping.

I went to DC Filmfest and one of the theaters I went to had plans on playing this. I was really tempted to go but was sort of worried about the cultish crowd that a DC showing of Atlas Shrugged would bring. If you look at the Rotten Tomatoes score, the disparity between what critics and viewers think is pretty out of whack (and Ebert mentioned there were 4 star ratings of the film on his website by readers before it was screened to critics). I have doubts my giggles and instant reactions would be met with the same approval/encouragement as seeing Rocky Horror or The Room. The clips I saw on io9.com were hysterical (along with the review).

It made $683k on 300 screens this weekend.

Atlas Shrugged movie doing so poorly, producers forced to write checks to theaters to cover losses.

Somehow I sense Obama will be blamed for this.

Box Office: 'Atlas Shrugged' collapses, even without a NY Times review

After a middling performance during its opening weekend that was hyped in some quarters (i.e., The Hollywood Reporter), the per-screen average for this amateurish Ayn Rand adaptation (even Kyle could only muster 2.5 stars' worth of enthusiam for the movie, though he liked its message) plunged to an alarming $1,890 from $5,640 during its opening frame. Overall, the weekend's take was a scant $879,000 -- a whopping 48 percent drop despite adding 166 locations. Which certainly suggest they're running out of audience quick.

That means that at some locations, distributor Rocky Mountain Pictures will be writing checks to theaters to cover the difference between receipts and operating expenses. The only way they're likely to get the 1,000 screens the producers say they want next weekend is to rent them. And, as Kyle put it at his personal blog, "Whether the sequels get made is purely a matter of how much desire the producers have for losing money.'

Surely rubbing salt in the producers' wounds is the performance of Robert Redford's left-leaning "The Conspirator,' which also added screens in its second weekend and managed a decent hold and a $2,696 per location average. Its current cumulative gross is $6.9 million vs. a hair over $3 million for "Atlas Shrugged.'
