The 700 Club is too famous for this to be thought of as a lil slip up.
But, as always sweetiedarlinmia brings some grounded truth to the precedings.

Posted: 4/6/05 at 6:03pmI'm not really sure how to express this. I am gay. I work with a lot of people who are of the 700 Club Crowd. I disagree with them so much. I find their views offensive..and often laughable, but conservative religion, tv ministers, the 700 Club, TBN, etc is just such a way of life here in Oklahoma. It is hard to associate it with being this big, evil empire when it something that you are so accustomed to, perhaps that is why I am not as offended as some other people are.

Thank you SweetieDarlinMia and jrb for your carefully considered thoughts.
Another thing that makes me feel that this wasn't a little oversight is that no Broadway star has been playing her career cards more brilliantly than Kristin Chenoweth. Love her or hate her, she's on a roll with movies, concerts and her new CD. No other current Broadway star can match her on this. Plus, she's an advertisers dream - her biggest fan base, young girls and gay men - are also the most spending-est demographic you could want.
I might go easy on her if she was a novice, but she (or her agent and publicist)is a shrewed cookie who knows how to work her fans - too bad she didn't think that she might hurt her oldest fan base in her choice of interview venues.

Let her sing what she believes in. She is a proud Christian, and just because she wants to show it... you are bringing her down. Leave her alone!
And I would just like to add, she is going to the AIDS fundraisers to try and raise money for people with AIDS. She is not trying to discriminate against anyone... anyone is allowed to come and try to raise money for those who need it. If she went to an AIDS fundraiser at a church, would it be different? Maybe for you, but my view of her hasn't changed.
She is not a hateful person, but just putting out a CD that shows her beliefs. She has done nothing wrong, and there is no reason for an uproar. ... let me add this, just becuase she was on the TV show doesn't mean she believes everything that it stands for. She said in her interview on the bww.com website that she loves Rosie O' Donnell, so how is that discrimination?

Don't you talk that way about the goddess who brought Taboo here!
At this point, I don't believe Kristin is hateful. I never wanted to believe it--but i had doubts. After all, when you break bread with hateful people, it's an easy conclusion to draw. She IS however, guilty of selling out her gay fans (who supported her first)to hock a CD. She's duplicitous. She visits the man who calls gays 'diseased', and then goes to an AIDS fundraiser. How bizarre.

kangaroo--how about reading the posts in the thread before posting?? No one was saying those things.
Only that they are angry she went on a show that promotes hatred of gays WHICH I BEG YOU TO THINK FOR A MOMENT how you would feel if she went on a show that promotes hatred of blacks.

First of all, Do you know ANYTHING about showbusiness?????
And second, are you saying that EVRYONE on the 700 Club is hateful? If you are, that is judging, and by judging, you are no better than the ones who judge us. Your hypocricy shows more and more in this thread.

i bet the 700 Club wouldn't have many nice things to say about your lesbian icon. And why do you continue to put your words in my mouth! The 700 Club=Pat Robertson. I have no idea how many of his followers agree--though i'm certain it's too many for my comfort.

Posted: 4/7/05 at 9:59amthe 700 Club does not know that she is a Lesbian, so, they wouldn't say anything. And I don't understand how I'm putting words in your mouth, when I am simply copying and pasting what you say.

Ignorance?
Is it ignorant to hold to one set of beliefs?
Is that your definition of ignorance?
I do speak of those Christians who don't bash gays, and walk around in white sheets..
Yes, some people believe in a narrow set of beliefs, but that doesn't equal ignorance, or close-mindedness.
Kristin made no mistake here.
She is doing PR here, and has NEVER said anything remotely homophobic, or anti-gay.
Many conservatives go on talk shows (Leno, Stewart) which MOCK and imply how stupid Republicans are, yet are those conservatives seen as traitors?
I know this argument is tired, and this will persuade no one, but I'm just voicing my opinions.

I can't believe some of you are all up in arms about this. It's simple marketing. You create a product that will appeal to a large demographic.
Kristin Chenoweth has recorded a CD that is marketable to the Christian community. Her appearance on the 700 Club is just marketing. That show is seen by a lot of people who would never know who she is if she didn't go on there. She has not allied herself with Pat Robertson.
She happens to attend a church here in New York that has an inclusive policy towards gay people. Some of her best friends and colleagues are gay. She is just trying to sell some CD's. She hasn't turned her back on anyone.

jrb, I don't think PAX actually markets itself as "Christian," rather they use terms like "pro-family" and "family friendly," which rarely also means "gay friendly."
They also don't have a major, national talk show.
