Governor Slaton--ABSOLUTELY. My mom and I both looked at each other and I said, "Okay, that was creepy." But five mintues prior I was squealing at Sweeney Todd being on the screen. GOD I love that show.
I feel so silly. The documentary finished and I went upstairs to my room and cried because I love theatre so much and it just made me so...happy. I was laughing and crying at the same time.
the whole maybe 5 minute section about RENT... ugh. How it talks about Jonathan's death and then they played the demo of Jonathan singing "One Song Glory" and then segwayed into Adam Pascal singing it on stage with full set and costume. I litterly just cried like a little baby...
too long on wicked, not enough on rent (there's more to the show than jon dying... i wish they had shown the giant effect it had on the industry and the huge fan base). the didn't even MENTION into the woods. where the f were the new composers? none of the three-names (or will finn) were there (maybe because they focus on off-bway and this doc was about on-bway... but a blurb woulda been nice). the chorus line part was great. all the sondheim parts were great. i cried several times during the program. when it was over i was just like, "omg. i love this. i really love this." i would have preffered if it were a 24-hour program but the 6 will just have to do. peter felicia should contribute some "lost episodes."
Watch the "Pygmalion" movie w Leslie Howard. Harrison steals all of his line readings- even his pauses! I know there was stuff we all wish could have been included or increased but I thought they did an admirable job of hitting key events in the history of the B'way musical. "Marriage blanc" is a well known European phrase for a marriage of convenience . Porter, from the few references I have was a bit of a slut in his time!
