A really crazy one? Honestly, I don't understand the people who defend Bale's behavior. Sure, tempers grow short as workdays grow long, and I've seen many an actor's heads spin, but I have never heard a hissy fit go on for FOUR minutes. And never mind that - my major issue with Bale is the repeated threats of violence. Unacceptable in any work place.
"A Defence...."
An interesting reminisance. The jungles of Thailand are not comprable to a studio set in a major city. Long hours... yeah the crew is working them too AND they usually have to stay about another hour past wrap to "tidy" up for the next day. Most SAG contracts req 12hr off between wrap and call time for the next days tho often a star will comprimise BUT it's their choice. The crew gets a 10 hr turnaround some times less if the producers doesn't mind paying a penalty. ( if the bulk of the crew in Thailand were locals prob a lot more leeway) AND they don't go off onto tirades.
The story was interesting too as it noted the conditions of working for an actor on film. The "150 people plus" ie wardrobe sitting there checking their costumes frm/to scenes, Props checking their inventory, the A.D.'s getting messages on their walkies. And I won't even go into stunts and green screen situations. A LOT of distractions. So he wails on the DOP? How close WAS the DOP? 10 feet. Valid complaint. 20 feet. Still valid. 60 feet? NOT SO MUCH.
Plus Bale says ( ok, screams) "you've done this before and i asked you not to." THIS is the weird thing. Cos if the DOP already knew this was an issue he shouldn't have done it. If it
really is an issue for your performer, let him have his way because in the end your goal is TO MAKE THE FREAKIN FILM! And if sound was rolling so was camera. The film might show what really happened. So where is it? There is something else going on here.
M'kay, I'm done.

It could be Bale started in and the operator just left a tape machine on. Or maybe someone turned on a machine when Bale exploded..

The Christian Bale "What Don't You ****ing Understand?" Remix from Revolucion--"It's ****ing distracting...oohhhhhhhh good!" LOL! Very catchy!

How can I condone Bale's tirade? I can't. Did he ever realize he inspired remixes and YouTube immortality? Not at the moment. Did any of us anticipated a freakout of this degree on a open set? Freakouts do occur but only on closed set with NDAs being signed and can't discuss them publicly.
And if sound was rolling so was camera.
Not necessarily. And the "In Defense of Article" is interesting, but irrelevent.

Method actors love enduring all those hardships for their roles and it doesn't hurt that it gives them loads of attention and sympathy. They will have much more interesting stories to tell, after all. But what does that have to do with how he treated a DOP on an entirely different film two years later? Not much unless it is how his "character" would treat a DOP in a film he was working on or whatever. I'm sure later we'll hear how he was arrested on a drugs possession charge while "researching a role".
He's a rageaholic. Being upset is fine, we all get upset.
showing such a lack of basic repsect over something as unimportant (and no matter what anyone says about each shot costing $$, it's still not that important. They do several takes at the whim of a director all the time) is indicative of issues that Bale needs to deal with.
Or remain the laughingstock of the industry.
