Posted: 1/28/05 at 1:31pmJarico and I are going to Barcelona in March and neither of us have been there before. Anyone been there and have suggestions? The only things we've planned so far are tours of the Liceu Opera House and the Palau Recital Hall.

Posted: 1/28/05 at 1:38pmGo to Palacio de la musica. also you must go to Parque Guell ( It is a must). You should PM Dame and see if she responds. She was just there last month.

Posted: 1/28/05 at 1:47pmI wrote down some of Dame's recommendations for restaurants. I'm keeping copious notes on any and all suggestions. Thanks!

Posted: 1/28/05 at 2:02pmThe Picasso Museum is a must. You can totally skip MACBA, as it is VERY unimpressive. Take a walk along the waterfront by Barcelonita. DO NOT MISS Sagrada Familia. Though the heights are scary, the views are worth it.

Posted: 1/28/05 at 2:07pmThey have a nice zoo. I remember seeing the white gorilla but I believe he has passed. Gaudi architecture is spectacular. The food is divine (creme de Catalana is the Spanish creme brulee).

Posted: 1/28/05 at 2:15pmWe like seafood, but we obviously don't like "seafood". LOL

Definitely visit Sagrada Familia-- if you can walk up all of those steps without passing out, the view is SO worth it.
Also, the Guell park is VERY cool.

Visit Gaudi's design for the apartment building too....
If you can get to Montjuic, go... I missed going there during my trip.
And have chocolate while you're there.

There is a wondeful picture book called Barcelona by Peres Vivas and Ricard Pla. Go to your local bookstore and browse through it. It will be of enormous help.

I can even bring you to a musical xD
Barcelona is the off-broadway of Spain, we had:
Last five years, no way to treat a woman, I love you you're perfect now change, assassins, rocky horror show, little shop of horrors, sweeney todd, nunsense, rent...
and last month brent barrett and andrea marcovicci came to sing in the opera house!

Posted: 5/3/05 at 12:24amAll of them in spanish, I hope? I've never seen a musical in spanish. The closest was Paloma San Basilio singing Don't Cry for Me Argentina when I was a kid in Costa Rica.

In spanish and mainly in catalonian, which is the other language spoken in this region of spain (catalonia)
In fact, I like much more "no way to treat a lady" in catalonian than in english... they did a great job adapting the musical.
Paloma sanbasilio was terrible as evita! she did the show all across latin america and spain, and she's still making musicals, next month she will be in "victor/victoria" and last year she did "my fair lady" as eliza doolittle (and she's almost 55 years old... lol!)

Posted: 5/3/05 at 1:35amI have Paloma's version of "Evita" on CD. I think she did a great job (at least on the recording). I think she's an immensely talented vocalist, but at 55 she shouldn't be playing "Eliza Dolittle"(!)

Posted: 5/3/05 at 6:54amStroll the Ramblas and walk through the Gothic district. The cathedral there is quite beautiful. There are also great views from the gondola at the Olympic Park, but the park is a bit forgetable. Take a train ride (40 minutes) to Sitges. A gay mecca and very cool little town.
