Again robbij... my statement "it's not WHAT it has to say about being gay, or HOW it says it", had nothing whatsoever to do with the movie's craftsmanship.
commentator #1: jim, it looks like luscious has gone to a variation of the rubber glue defense.
commentator #2: oh yeah, i don't know if i'd have recommended that approach against namo, bill.
Right...it has to do with it's importance. Forgive another Holocaust comparison...but it's the same thing that was said when the miniseries HOLOCAUST was made in the 70's. It's importance was that it was done in the first place. A quarter of a century later, it turns out not to have been a particularly good work...artistically. It's been eclipsed by other, better films. The way BBM will be.

Well, as some guy I forget's name told Claire Danes in Stage Beauty, "You were the first. That's more important than being the best." Or something like that.

"It's been eclipsed by other, better films. The way BBM will be."
Yes. It will. However, there will be a small coterie of people who, in 2031, will delight that this mostly-forgotten favorite movie of theirs will FINALLY be getting its release on digividecap, or whatever the format of the day is. And they will go on and on like the folks in "that other thread" [oh, what the hell, yes I mean you Stanley "Stella" Steven] who actually tried to pretend that "Making Love" had any quality at all.
Dearest Namo (and Papa too):
Just an FYI...
It's not necessary to be verbose when making a point. It doesn’t serve in making you appear any more intelligent than you actually are, just more full of hot air (and yourself).
Love and Kisses,
Luscious

commentator #1: yep, that one had to hurt.
oh and lushy, keep working at those reading skills and eventually you might be able to read at that 6th grade level. we all have hope for you.

Yeah, well, once again you skip the salient points. I'm still intensely curious as to why, if BBM takes the Academy Award, you will be "awash with tears and pride."

It's not WHAT he says or HOW he says it ....
Dammit. I really am a dick.
"It's not WHAT it has to say about being gay, or HOW it says it ***THAT MAKES IT REVOLUTIONARY***, but that it was made, released, and is being marketed to (and largely embraced by) a mainstream audience. ***OF WHICH I CONSIDER MYSELF PART OF***
"That, accompanied by the fact that it's a well-crafted film by a respected director with an intelligent script and first-rate performances by talented actors, makes it a triumph and cause for celebration."
I think my former statement speaks for itself. Sorry if you don't. But this debate is over (for now).

If I subscribe to this thread, will I be notified when the debate resumes?
maybe, but only because you're such a dick.
papa... don't you have some gas to go pump?

Probably why I'm so popular in a thread with "bareback" in its title, though.
undoudtedly, kringas, not a thing wrong with that.
and lushy, please leave me out of your gas station fantasies.

Guess 6th grade levels would be quite an achievement.

Though I feel I must make a brief PSA and say that I am in no means advocating barebacking. Life's yours to do with what you want, but I've been so scared ****less of HIV and AIDS since long before I even had sex that I don't even fantasize about barebacking.
"Guess 6th grade levels would be quite an achievement."
Alas, we can't all be as eloquent (or full of s#!t) as you, Namo.
I may write like a 6th grader, but at least I don't act like one.

Does this mean that the debate has resumed?

You're right. The rubber/glue thing is more like 4th grade.
I've tried to post today showing respect for the fact that people are moved by this movie that didn't move me. I've asked questions repeatedly, such as "WHY will you be awash with tears of pride if BBM wins an Oscar?" but rather than answer you reply with some sort of reversal of other points I make.
Which leads me to ask with all due respect (seriously), how old are you Luscious?

Tell the truth (seriously)... you're on the pipe, aren't you?

Yeah, well, there ya go. I've tried today.
I hope you have somebody with you to celebrate and wipe your flowing tears if your dream comes true on Oscar night. Best wishes.
Thank you for your well wishes, Namo. I do. And I will. I've been in a loving relationship with the same man for the past 17 years. Hope you can say the same some day.

How do you know I can't say it now, dickwad?
I think I'll wait for BlueWizard to return since BW manages to actually respond to direct questions and raise interesting ones on his own that aren't mere reversals of points other people made.
"How do you know I can't say it now, dickwad?"
Now, just for the record, would that be a 4th or 6th grade response?
