playoffs

Plum, I got all of the factors on who had to win what to make it to the playoffs, etc...I just don't understand why if we were tied w/ the Yankees they automatically award the East to the Yanks because they took 10 out of 19, but the same rule didn't apply to the Sox/Cleveland if we had happend to end up tied for the Wild Card? Why would there be an aditional game added on Monday? Why wouldn't the season series record between the Sox/Indians be the determining factor the way it was for the Sox/Yankees?

Maybe you had that in your response. I just got back from a 5+ hour taping of Inside the Actors Studio, and I think I'm a little shot! I'll have to re-check in tomorrow.
But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

20 minutes until the Braves/Astros game starts.

Go Braves!

Yeah, I guess that makes sense, Plum...it just seems like if you were tied, then you'd have to play the extra game be it for the East or the Wild Card or whatever...and even up until Saturday afternoon's game, they (the announcers on Fox)were saying that if it came to it and they split those last two games, they'd have a game Monday at Yankee Stadium (so I assumed all that the season record would determine was whose park the additional game would be played in...I'm assuming the Sox had a better record than the Indians, because had we lost Sunday and they won, we would have played at Fenway)...Very complicated!

Guess that's it...hopefully we'll pull something together tonight. I'm petrified at the thought of Clement having to pitch again if we push it to a Game 5 or something...Eeek!

Anyone else besides me going to any of the playoff games? (any team)

playoffs

I might head over to Wrigley, but there will not be any playoff games there!playoffs

I had bleacher seats for Yankees Home Game 3, but that obviously got cancelled. So, that's a big no for me, sadly.

Sigh. It's October. It's the Braves. Why do I get my hopes up?
#1133

playoffs

Wow. Here's some sad news- the Padres' Jake Peavy fractured a rib in a post-victory celebration on the mound. He thinks someone elbowed him. He's out for the rest of the year, making San Diego's already paltry chances dwindle down almost into nonexistence.

White Sox win 5-4. I cannot believe that I am rooting for the Sox, but let the second to last curse end!

playoffs

*sigh* This is what happens when you make errors in big games, boys! Oh well...back to the old "there's always next year" bit.

mabel - I am a Cubs fan, next year is hundreds of dolllars for fourth place.

Gag, the Braves really made a mess of that game. At least we hit Pettite though. (now if only our Bullpen was not an Ulyssian disaster.)
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

playoffs

Well, I do hold a soft spot for the Cubs. One day, brdlwyr. One day.

Oy, it's only the 5th inning? I'll never be able to stay up and watch the rest of the game!

Thanks, I just really feel bad for Lee - what a year!

This Yankees/Angels game is just too slow. I am afraid I wont make it to the end.

uh oh, down 4-2 right now with only a couple innings to go...
#1143

I wont be that upset if the yanks lose tonight, since boston in down 0-2 in thier series. and randy johnson pitches gane 3 at home.
#1144

playoffs

Well crap. Hopefully we'll do better in NYC!
#1145

playoffs

Yeah, I find it bizarre that the game would start at 10:00 est.

Oh well.

Grr. Well, it's always possible that we'll kick their butts next time. Right? Right?!

Hey, at least you're still tied up, Plum. I have a feeling our asses will be staying in Boston! They could have at least made it interesting. playoffs

I can't believe I'm encouraging a Boston fan, but if the gimpy, hitting-deprived 2001 Yankees could come back against the A's after losing the first 2 games, well...let's just say that the bizarre becomes more probable in a short series.

I just don't see our pitching pulling this one off. We're really pathetic. And when Wells was doing a decent job, you can't throw that potential win away w/ sloppy fielding. I really can't feel that disappointed when you loose games because of stuff like that. If you're making stupid errors in big games like this...it's just a bad, bad thing! I haven't totally given up hope. I mean, I think we all remember what happened in the ALCS last year, but I think our pitching is just so lackluster. I just don't see how we could really pull it off.

I've deliberated forgotten the ALCS last year, and do not want reminding. :)
