Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever hated a season so much from the get go. Between the terrible cast, uninspiring twists, and general campy BB I’m not feeling this season. Never thought I may bow out just a week in (I’m a super nerd for all the cbs reality shows) but damn people I am close
The idea of having the first 4 evicted stay in the house is reminiscent of Survivor where they had the Island of Extinction which I rather liked. If someone gets voted off that you like you get to see more of them. In the case of Survivor the hunk who I loved came back after beating all of the other evictees and then he went on to win the game. .
I do agree that the casting this year is strange. It is not the greatest looking cast and the majority of them lack personality. They appear to be acting like they think a Big Brother cast member should act by imitating the behavior of past years cast members.. If one more person tells Julie how beautiful she looks I think I am going to barf. The diary room confessions seem even more coached than usual forcing the cast to over do it.
Fair enough, but as someone who hated Edge of Extinction this is the last thing I wanted with an unappealing cast. Really just wish they casted 18 people and gave up on these battle backs that inevitably happen every season now.
Ha! Never realized there was an "Off topic" section on BWW, but happy to have found this. Fellow BB addict here (Dr. Will, best ever!). So far am #TeamTommy. Think the season is off to a pretty decent start, but once again wish they'd stop casting 20-something model types. Back in the day you had "real" people, which made it more interesting...especially considering they didn't all the extra rules and gimmicks they do now. At the start of every season, I always wish for something that comes close to season 2.
I’m not caught up on feeds, but who do we think JackAss is nominating tonight? My bet is on Jessica and Kemi since they seem like outcasts in his eyes so they must go. So worried about this week lol
Last night was truly one of the worst episodes I've seen of this show. I don't even know what to say. Its like a completely new team took over this show and are doing it for the first time after last season. The twists are horrible, cast is horrible, I think Im officially done here folks. Ill check back in in another week or two and see if things have picked up at all.
So, I just got caught up and this season is starting off basically no different than any other season. They're all usually stupid and boring at the start and we have many of the same character types Big Brother foists on us time and again. The producers LOVE racist conservative eye candy. None of us watching for at least the last dozen years should be surprised by this. The second we saw Jackson's All-American pretty-boy face and his southern drawl, we KNEW exactly how he would behave. This is why they cast young. Producers do NOT want savvy adults with life experience. Well, maybe one, knowing they will be voted out quickly or mostly ignored (anyone over 40 needs to be ridiculously mean or ridiculously stupid). That being said, I think the racist controversy this year jumped the gun a bit with respect to Jackson. I completely agree that his decision to "banish" David made zero sense and his justification of banishing those "campaigning against him" was both delusional and stupid. But his banishment of Kemi actually did make sense. She's a self-proclaimed mean girl who flaunts her disinterest with flagrant apathy. Jack's motivation is to be a misogynist bully. He's probably been preparing for the part since watching the Evel Dick/Jen showdown from BB8, except instead of Jen, Jack wound up with the knockoff of Monet from BB12. And so far, the convoluted twists right out of the gate remind me of the stupid Battle of the Block they tried a few years ago that nobody really understood and it failed miserably.
I honestly don't give a crap if any of them are "hot". The personalities of the "hotties" usually kill any hotness I'm interested in seeing. Tommy is this season's exception, so naturally, he won't win.

If I recall, and I could be wrong, David, Jessica, both volunteered for camp director, so Imo thats a valid reason to banish them. Kemi, made no effort to talk to him, thats another valid reason for banishment. It raised an eyebrow for me but it all made sense. His behavior since though has completely ruined anything I thought before and he's a complete racist. Calling the nicest guy in the house (David) simply doesn't spew from anything other than racism, or his own insecurities about himself, which either way are pathetic to take out on another human being. Most seasons tend to start out much more fun. Lots of wacky strategy, likable contestants, like legit strategy being talked about, but really none of that this season. Uncharasimatic cast, unlikable cast, bland and uninspiring twists, poor editing of the tv show (There was apparently 2 house meetings that Jack started that they just didn't show..... so instead we got that Kat and Jackson scene? And that long comp?), and honestly what feels like a lack of interest even from the show's stand point. Guess ill be on my tv less this summer, which probably isn't a bad thing!
For my tastes, when it comes to TV shows that are an international franchise, I've always enjoyed watching the UK or Australian versions. For the most part, the contestants are just more civilized people.
I find the US versions of Big Brother (and Master Chef, too) to be an embarrassing depiction of US citizens; demonstrating that we're conniving, backstabbing cutthroats who will do anything to win, and project it as game-playing "strategy".
I liked Ovi, but he'll never win. He's not the kind of character that US viewers will support as a "winner". It also seems that of all the other remaining contestants, only the prettiest are getting consistent air time.
I gave it a shot, but after last night's episode, I decided to delete BB from my DVR scheduled recordings.

I was wondering if there was a new production team myself. Something is really off with the entire endeavor this summer. They did a poor job of finding people you can root for. And many of them have the personalities of dry wall.

Okay, I'm with you (mostly) on Master Chef. The Australian version is basically the king of all amateur cooking competitions. New Zealand is the only one that even comes close. The winners of the US version wouldn't even make it onto the Australian show, the level of competency is that high. I also love My Kitchen Rules, which the US and UK tried to attempt using a different format and they are garbage. But My Kitchen Rules clearly cast many of the teams for their controversial personalities (Google MKR Mormon Brothers and you'll get the idea).
But as for Big Brother, UK and Australia followed the same format, which is entirely different from the US version (which ditched the original format and reverted to a Survival-style format after its dismal first season...ABC tried to replicate it with The Glass House and it failed as well). The contestants in the BB AU were so raunchy and out of control, the show had to be completely rebooted with new contestant rules. It only ran 2 more seasons and died because audiences lost interest. BB UK has always cast extremes of character, often scraping the bottom of the barrel, and ran its final season last year (though there were rumors it may return on a different network). Just in the past few years I've been watching BB UK, I've seen countless contestants get removed for violence, racism, threats, you name it. It makes the US version look like Sesame Street by comparison.
I did enjoy the final 2 seasons of BB AU...and it didn't hurt that the host was Tina Sparkle from Strictly Ballroom! And the host of BB UK, Emma Willis, is probably my favorite reality host of all time. One of the greatest moments was her exit interview with Roxanne Pallett, who notoriously tried to convince housemates that one of the men in the house maliciously attacked her physically and beat her (apparently, Roxanne forgot there were cameras EVERYWHERE). Emma was having NONE OF IT. I love her.

As far as good game play and people I could root for, I like David (assuming he makes it back into the game) and Sam.
Jessica is horrible at this game...she picks the absolutely worst person to play in the Veto competition then (based on the edited version we saw) gives the worst plea to Sam to use his veto on her.
Ovi is clueless. This is even clearer when you see how David’s mind is going 24/7 figuring out gameplay and when David is talking to him about the game.
I feel so bad for Sam on the loss of his grandfather...I did wonder how many of those in the room with him were there out of concern for him and how many were there solely for gameplay...
Sam made a good decision to not veto the nominations. Neither of the nominees are valuable to him in his game and it wasn’t worth jeopardizing his game. Jessica is the worst player, but I suspect they’ll “evict” Kemi although I guess Jessica is seen as the head of Black Widow so who knows.
Man, Bella is a blabbermouth. She may be Gr8teful’s undoing. Probably not, but it would glorious.
Cliff is so clueless. The Zing alliance is pretty weak. The two that could vote still voted with the house. It’s a pretty silly alliance anyway. Other than Ovi not being a good player (neither are the other two), he’s not even officially in the game right now and it’s pretty unlikely he’ll win his way back in.
I am intrigued with what Jackson has in mind with casting his vote to evict Jessica.
Sam is becoming my favorite player this season. I am also pulling for David to make it back into the game.
Poor Tommy has no idea his Pretty Woman family will have disbanded by time he leaves the game completely and he’ll be jobless.
Now they have three people of color living up in the Grey Gardens Camp Ground suite separated from the rest of the house and forced to live in squalor. And the powers that be have not idea how subconsciously racist their actions have been. it is so embarrassing. Tommy should have at least spoken up about the optics. My goodness, he is in show business for gods sake.
To be fair...I don't think your brain even thinks like that when youre in the middle of it. Im guessing the battle in is going to be questions about stuff said/done in the house.
But....I am thoroughly bored by this show, its become so predictable.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I still have not found anyone to root for. I have to admit the guy with the long hair has a great body!!!!!!
What is up with Cliff today? I guess the show will get a little more interesting when Grateful starts picking each other off. CBS should let the person who comes back be head of household.
I'm curious if Mike Barrett is still loving Bella. As I stated weeks ago, she is a nasty piece of work and I wasn't wrong. For those who follow Tommy is this how he is in the real world? Or is he badly acting for the camera? Either way he is coming across like a stereotype. If I had to root for anybody, it would be Sam, Kemi, David or Nicole. Jessica and Ovi , are likable, just don't know how to play the game. Something about Cliff suggests a fakeness to me. The rest of the cast are stuck in their junior high mean boy and girl cliques. Tommy desperately want to be part of their cool group. Which is surprising, since he is one of the most successful of this group and shouldn't have to pander to anyone.
Tommy reads as a teenager sometimes. I think it has something to do with being shorter and playing kids roles on Broadway. He talks a lot about his Broadway work which successful actors tend NOT to do. At times he seems immature. I guess by the time he gets out of the house Pretty Woman will have closed.
I liked Bella in the beginning but I changed my tune. I feel kind of sorry for the folks that are not in Grateful.
Haven't seen the episodes but have followed on here and updates on reddit and such. Im well aware of Bella and I have completely turned on her. She was fun in the first episode with her mom but without her mom yikes. I hope we get a segment of her mom scolding her at home watching her, that'd be deserved. And not to spoil too much for next week, and dunno if they'll show, but Kemi and Bella got in an argument and Bella touched Kemi. Yikes. From what Ive read, hope David wins the comeback and runs the show. That'd be fun but I think ill wait to tune in again until next week.
Bella would blame her actions to her mother on playing the game. The mother is naïve and would believe it. I would bet anything that is what she is like in the real world.
