Thank you for that link. It's a great piece. I am proud a black gay man takes on the challenge of Whoopi Goldberg.
Ohhhhh, Claire Huxtable! Why couldn't you have said "no comment"? Ugh.
Maybe she was not in his demographic...
And, somewhere, Hillary Clinton and her "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" is saying "You Go Girl."
But if she believes in what she is saying, why shouldn't she speak up? Just because it's "popular" to abandon him, doesn't mean it's the only stance.
I was more willing to believe the allegations until Janice Dickenson(sp?) got involved. There is something about that woman that never seems genuine.
I know people who feel the same way, regarding Dickinson. But when Beverly Johnson spoke out, those same people said they couldn't NOT believe it anymore.
I had that knee jerk reaction to Dickinson too, but realized that that didn't make her a liar. I immediately thought she was jumping on a publicity band wagon and trying to get in the public eye again...except for the fact that she could just be telling the truth.
I'm not saying I think he's innocent, and I certainly never want to doubt any woman's word when it comes to rape.
Certainly Rashad has a right to speak out. I just wish it had been more measured than saying she thinks it's a big conspiracy to tear down the legacy of Bill Cosby (for some reason) and that all of these women should be forgotten.
Also: since when did the adventures of the upper-middle class doctor/lawyer-led Huxtable family actually and truthfully represent America?
Just commenting on another accuser comes forward with a very similar story...
"One night we were going out to a movie. We agreed to meet at an apartment that he said belonged to a friend of his. I had a terrible headache but didn't want to cancel the evening. He told me he had a miracle cure his doctor had given him that would get rid of the headache. He went into another room and came back with a capsule. I asked a couple of times what it was. Each time he reassured me, asking, "Don't you trust me?" Of course I did. This was Bill Cosby.
For more than 45 years I have tried to recall exactly what happened that night. To this day it remains a blur. I have a vague recollection of feeling like I was floating while walking through Times Square and watching some kind of Japanese samurai movie with him. I don't remember where the theater was nor very much of the evening.
What I do recall, vividly and clearly, is waking up the next morning nude in the bed of his friend's apartment and seeing Cosby wearing a white terrycloth bathrobe and acting as if there was nothing unusual. It was obvious to me that he had had sex with me. I was horrified, embarrassed and ashamed. There was a mirror above the bed, which shocked me further.
After some awkward small talk, I got out of there as fast as I could. Once in the elevator, I broke down crying, which I continued to do as I walked home to my apartment in the east 70s. It never occurred to me to go to the police. It was a different time and "date rape" was a concept that didn't exist. I just kept asking myself over and over in disbelief why this had happened to me. Other than my roommate, I did not discuss that night with anyone for 36 years."
Cosby: 'Trust Me.'
This sort of puts to rest the idea that all the women want to shake him down for money or for notoriety.
NY Mag has photographed and interviewed 35 of the 46 women who have accused Cosby of rape or sexual assault. It is a stunning article.

I will never understand what led Coz to drug and/or rape those women. With his fame and $$$, he could have easily found willing playmates if he felt the urge for some strange. The man is a psychopath.
Season II of HBO's True Detective does an interesting take on the incessant sense of entitlement of men of means and the women whom they relegate to mere objects of gratification. There's certainly nothing new about the story but it's disheartening nonetheless.

The way I understand it is that he wasn't looking for playmates in that consensual way, he was looking for prey to drug and rape. Consensual sex doesn't have any kick for a guy like that.
Well, according to that released deposition, it's all consensual in his mind.
I will never throw a pity party for a serial rapist but flash back to 1992 when Cosby's own daughter Erinn came out accusing Mike Tyson of sexual assault. She also opens up about her issues with substance abuse back then. I remember watching the episode of Phil Donahue and sensing that she was dodging questions about her relationship with the parents.
^ Actually their website fell victim to a DDoS attack, which apparently was unrelated to the Cosby article.
A strange coincidence they'd be hit with a DDoS attack hours after releasing that piece.
Oh I have a theory as to why the site came under attack today. But, I'm learning that I don't always have to be the one who puts things out in the aether.

*HEADDESK* as the kids used to say
There's so much I could write about the entitlement issues of practically all the men in my family as well as those of my inner circle, including my own I suppose. But, to my knowledge neither of us is a rapist like Cosby appears to be. Some men have been taking from women of easy virtue and innocents alike since time immemorial.
No women should be drugged or coerced into intercourse with any man. However, there is a predatory & primal aspect to how men pursue women whether or not most are willing to admit it publicly. And there are boatloads of women, some very successful, who are turned on by "dangerous men" who are willing to pursue them at all costs. There are some secrets that those women don't share with their gay male besties either.
Cosby crossed the line plain and simple by drugging those women and attempting to take what didn't belong to him. The bro code no longer applies.
