Okay- so I was watching Dr. Phil last night (I was switching the channels, as usual, when I came across some of the discussion about Octomom). My husband just let loose and said it's all because of the Jon and Kate show glorifying multiple births! He said when you see people on TV getting bigger homes, book deals, vacation deals, talk show guest spots- it's pretty enticing! He said no wonder someone like Octomom would want to have that! just relayin' the info- but what do ya'll think?

I don't think they bear sole responsibility, but the octomom was pretty much the next logical step in a trail littered with your John and Kates, and McHaugheys (or whatever their name was), even your Duggars.

Nah...according to the Family Research Council...the blame lies squarely on two lesbians and the California Supreme Court

"When Nadya Suleman became a mom for the 14th time, she raised more than a few eyebrows. The drama grew by national proportions when details trickled out that Suleman was not only unmarried, but chose to have multiple embryos implanted in her womb through in-vitro fertilization. Last week, taxpayers learned that they would be partially liable for the family's care through hundreds of dollars in food stamps and disability payments. The news fueled even more conviction that the fertility doctor should have refused the procedure.

But is he really to blame--or are our courts? In California, the state Supreme Court made it virtually impossible for a physician to exercise his own judgment after two lesbians sued in 2001 for the right to be artificially inseminated over the doctors' personal or social objections.

eah, but Jon and Kate didn't plan on having septuplets. They thought they would only have one more kid, two tops. Carzy Octo mom thinks its a brilliant idea to have 14. I think Kate would kill herself if she had 14 kids

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention...I'm the good cop, he's the bad cop.

I blame the octuplets. You can tell they planned the whole thing.

I can't believe John and Kate are younger than me. Neither of them look a day under 40.

She was born in 1975 and he was born in 1977. I am flabbergasted. Either it's bad genes or having a zillion kids ages you rapidly.

Take that, Octomom!

Jon and Kate are barely at their mid-30s, Jon turned 30 on a somewhat recent episode and I believe Kate is a few years older.

Anywho, how can you blame Jon and Kate for anything? She had to go through fertility treatment in the hopes of even having 1 kid, and in some miraculous way, she has a total of 8. They also raised their twins for about 4 years and the 6 kids for about a year before they even appeared on the original hour special. They also manage to remain (somewhat) level-headed despite raising their kids, they may have money and whatnot because of their fame, but they still do have 8 kids to be mindful of everyday of their lives.

I can't even comment on this Octuplet mom because it seems as if there are issues with the medical care she underwent, but I really don't know why a single mother with 6 kids would feel the need to undergo any kind of fertility treatment.

I'd look weathered and beaten by life too if I had 8 kids. I can't even imagine.

I think Kate would kill herself if she had 14 kids

Kate would probably kill Jon. She clearly hates him.

What is this business about Jon and Kate hating eachother/killing themselves over kids? If you would watch the show, you would see that they are probably the most loving and supportive couple on television and love their children more than anything in the world. Yes, having 8 children is clearly a hassle, but these are two people who clearly love their role as parents, despite the hardships, and commit themselves fully to their kids.

(In case you couldn't tell, I love Jon and Kate. I've met them before and they are terrific parents and have a terrific family.)

The commercials for this show give me a headache. I would never be able to watch an entire episode.

All I know about this show is from The Soup. They show clips that make her out to be quite the shrew. I feel sorry for the husband...

I saw an episode recently (I am late to the Jon and Kate, so it was from a year or two ago) where, during their little interview portion section, she started going on and on and on about the fact that his *breathing* was too loud?? Not to mention the way she seems to always be just mocking the way he talks- be it word choice, "mumbling," etc.
I am sure they have some kind of editorial/creative control over what makes the final cut, so I always wonder what gets left out of the footage of how she acts towards him... sorry, whoever coined the phrase "Jon Minus Nine" still makes me laugh.

If you haven't seen a couple of full episodes of Jon and Kate, you may not be characterizing the show accurately. Kate and Jon snipe at each other just as all married couples with young children do, and I appreciate the fact that they do not make an effort to be "perfect" little soap opera parents. They are both good with the children and Jon does pull his weight with child care even though he works full time. The show makes no effort to glamorize the exhaustion and tension involved in having so many mouths to feed, clothes to wash, beds to fix and bottoms to change. And a couple of those kids are hell on wheels so they are not perfect little angels either. I don't think octomom needed anyone to give her delusions about parenthood. I think she would have found some way to manipulate the system no matter what was on cable tv. Does anyone know if NBC paid for the interviews with Ann Curry? In that case, it is the networks who should be shot, not Jon and Kate.

You know, i actually saw Jon & Kate together at a restaurant a few months ago. I guess they were here doing their book tour. And I always thought they came across as not really liking each other all that much but watching them together alone (Yes, I couldn't help it) they are really happy and obviously in love with each other. Kind of changed my whole perspective on the show after seeing them.

When I first started watching the show I thought Kate was a shrew, I didn't care for the way she talked to Jon, especially when she reprimanded him. Later after watching for a while I saw that yes they loved each other and worked as a team. I have to say that most of us will never understand what it is like to have six of the same age children crying and pinching and pushing each other all day long. In a lot of the interviews you can see that Kate looks totally exhuasted.

As far as the Octomom goes if she was hoping to become famous and have her own show from all these kids, that's not the fault of any of these large families. Evidently the American public is interested in these families because they're rare and we wonder just how they keep it all together. I don't think any of them had all these kids because they wanted to become famous. I don't know what her motives were but she really made some poor choices. As far as who should help in the support of these babies, I say the doctor who did the procedure, he makes a pretty penny.

I may not know a lot about theater but I know that I love it.

I hate the opening of every kate $ jon show.. She always said we had twins and "wanted one more"... so why the heck did she put in more than one or two embros???

Also kate shouldn't glorify the fact that getting her own tv show allows her to stay home. I know it's hard as heck staying home with that many kids though.

Kate does snipe at Jon a lot, looking for ways to cut him down. It isn't just the kid stress that does it--footage of them pre-marriage shows her getting the frick on his nerves, too. Same shrew, only with a ponytail and bangs, and Jon was the same annoyed entity, only less resigned to her crap.
