I've only seen one of those, but it convinced me that David Mitchell needs to get shot of Webb and hang out with Ayoade more. I should probably start fishing around for more; just 'cos the years in question have passed doesn't mean the funny is gone. :3

It just keeps getting better and better as it gets closer to the end.

Sweet! Now I know what I'm doing for the rest of the evening, and hopefully it won't be as life-consuming as the Buzzcocks loops I've been suffering lately. Thank you! re: British comedy

Husk_Charmer - I'm glad someone else watches Goodnight, Sweetheart --- love, love, love that show. re: British comedy

Scripps- We get Last of the Summer Wine on our PBS station, but I have to admit that I've never watched more than a few seconds of it. I always say it is because I don't have the time, but I can find the time to watch As Time Goes By over and over and over!

Open All Hours is like comfort TV for me - I always watch it before I go to bed. It's funny, but relaxing!

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

Thanks for that, Mythus. It's no Buzzcocks, but it was pretty damn entertaining. Russel Brand is just ridiculous. He seems genuinely sweet natured or is it all an act?

Great Topic

But what interests me is that a lot of Americans love old UK sitcoms, i just really hope they realize that we aren't like that now lol (I think winston who posts on the theatre boards thinks we are all Bowler hat wearing, upper class busy bodies) when in reality we are much more Ab Fab (well Weez is, she can often be found drunk and passed out in between 2 parked cars lolol XX)

Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

Speak for yourself (and I know you just did re: British comedy)! I'm much more 'Black Books', me, in that I love books and swearing. Maybe a touch of 'Mighty Boosh' silliness on the side too. ^_^

I am terrifically amused that it's mostly the older stuff that's so popular here. I'm glad you like it though. Not that I had anything to do with it, but it still makes me happy in a really sad dorkish way.

I think there are effectively two threads in one here: Britcom for the under 30s (ie Weez & co.) and Britcom for the over 30s (ie Scripps & co.). Now that SADM2 has (eventually) found us he will have to decide which group he belongs in. re: British comedy

PS: And just because I'm talking about Last of the Summer Wine doesn't mean I enjoy it. I would rather smash my head thro' the TV screen than watch an episode.

Based on your posts Husk, I'm going to have to put you in the over 30s, but if you want to join the under 30s I'm sure Weez will pop up with some advice in her own inimitable way (probably consisting of Mitchell & Webb, Green Wing but I shouldn't steel her thunder).

I have a strange relationship with Mitchell & Webb. I like them as people well enough, but if I never saw them on TV again, I wouldn't cry.

I has already been recommending through the thread though. If there's anything I have named specifically and said "I like it", then that totally counts as a recommendation. See, I've been carefully planting these posts to ensure I'm mostly not just burbling on about rubbish. :3

Behold! I am doing some lists!

Episodes of 'The Mighty Boosh' that are fairly accessible*
1x03 - Bollo
1x04 - Tundra
1x08 - Hitcher
2x02 - The Priest and the Beast
2x03 - Nanageddon
2x06 - The Legend of Milky Joe
3x03 - The Power of the Crimp
3x05 - Party

*"accessible" is a pretty relative term here

Episodes of 'The Mighty Boosh' that should be avoided unless you're SURE about watching them
1x01 - Killeroo
3x01 - Eels
3x04 - The Strange Tale of the Crack Fox

Episodes of 'The Mighty Boosh' that are pretty great but should be handled with care
1x06 - Charlie
1x07 - Electro
2x05 - The Legend of Old Gregg
3x06 - The Chokes

I think my favourites are 'Nanageddon' and 'The Strange Tale of the Crack Fox'. But the latter is so ODD that even my friend who DEMANDED I watch the Boosh in the first place couldn't enjoy it. Although he's a big fan of Old Gregg, so go figure...

Gosh it must be nice to be Dee Plume... *sigh*

Penelope Keith is the finest British comedienne since Maggie Smith. What a shame she has never come to Bway.

You can see more of her work on the new Noel Coward boxed set where she stars in "Private Lives" and "Hay Fever".

PS You like 'title of show'?? Lord. We are really in decline in terms of culture. . . Sad.

Penelope Keith is PHENOMENAL, I would kill to see her live.

My friend Mikey saw her in Importance of Being Earnest a while back, and said she was absolutely divine.

Husky... I KNEW you had good taste!

In October or September a new TO THE MANOR BORN set is coming out with the 2007 reunion special (if you can't wait, you can watch it on youtube)

I JUST got the NOEL COWARD collection. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Keith. Even when she is miscast (as I think she is as Amanda) she is still more interesting an actress than most.

Have you seen the TONIGHT AT 8:30 stuff with Joan Collins? She is beautifully dreadful.

BFB-
I DVR-d it when it was on my local PBS station!

Is the 2007 special going to be available seperately? Because I def. got TMB for a Birthday present in April, I don't want to re-purchase it.

Yes it will be available separately. But if they include any new bonus features, I'll have to repurchase the whole set.

I'm a sucker that way.

I'm the same way. Fortunately, this set was free.

I wish Next of Kin was on DVD, that was Keith's most recent series, I think.

How did NExt of Kin end? I only saw about 4 episodes, before I left for college, and our PBS station in AR didn't show it.

I think some of the Joan Collins's episodes on TONIGHT AT 8:30 are good, especially "Still Life" and a few others. The opening credits are worth the price of admission. :)
