I agree that domestic violence is never a justifiable solution, but I also agree with a comment left at the end of that article ...

One can assume that the man's mother and his wife must not have had the best relationship, but whether or not that warranted mocking her death (especially since it clearly upset him) is hard to say. Of course, nothing excuses him assaulting her. This is just a gross, terribly unfunny story.
