True, JRB. As for the film itself, I think it's a strong work of art, well made, well acted...not sure if I'm pulling for it for the Oscar, yet.
About CRASH...I think people who say "CRASH is corny and simple and unrealistic" miss the point. It was a kind of fairy tale, or a parable, using those characters and situations to unveil some deeper truths. And, those truths aren't as simplistic than "Racism is bad", or "We're all a little bit racist, aren't we?" For my money, it had one of the most thrilling moments in any movie this year, with the invincibility cloak. That alone put it in my Top Ten.

My favorite - ever.
me too, DG, you're so right! "Oh, the starbucks on the next block is so much better", etc. lol!
And how about the days when each nominated song was sung by a different performer. Aren't they now using the same person for all or some of them? what're they trying to save money or something?
"Lesbians are everywhere. MTV, late night infomercials...these days it's actually kind of hip for girls to be at least "bi"."
So how come I can't find a date?

I was just reading that the female producer of BROKEBACK says she is having difficulty getting friends of hers "off the coasts" to go see the movie. That's kind of sad - and a bit of a disappointing thought - for her especially, of course.
DG, I read that article also:
"Brokeback Mountain" co-screenwriter and producer Diana Ossana, said some of her own friends and family in places other than "the coasts" have had a hard time coming to grips with the homosexual love story at the film's center.
"I finally had to say to them, 'It's just a movie. What do you think is going to happen to you if you see it?"' she said. "It hasn't been easy. Trust me."

Some people in other threads have been asking how Brokeback Mountain lost tonight to CRASH, so I thought I'd remind them of this little thread I started a month ago.
With the incessant campaigning by the likes of many media figures for Crash, including Roger Ebert (good Catholic boy that he is), the planted media stories about how Crash was gaining momentum and the many stories of a whisper campaign again BBM, I unfortunately was not surprised - only disgusted. Clearly a large group of Academy members couldn't get over their homophobic maladies to even see BBM, but they certainly could not deny Ang Lee a third time, or McMurtrie. This is the first time in the HISTORY OF FILM that a film has won NY & LA Critics Circle, DGA, PGA, WGA, BAFTA, etc - just about everything, and then lost the Oscar, and to the worst film in the field too. But Crash offered the easy answer - it pretends to be about racism while offering easy sentiment and schlock, but no one can argue with it's politics (unlike any of the othe nominees).
Years from now, this award for Crash is going to be an embarrassment to the film industry.
