It doesn't look as good as the movie versions of MAME or HELLO, DOLLY but I think it could be a real contender for a best picture oscar.
It will DEFINITELY get a nomination.

Posted: 8/6/10 at 5:50pmNothing will ever be "Showgirls," but I have a feeling this will be my new guilty pleasure movie. Like taz said, it's definitely going to be so bad it's good. Just what I expected (and wanted).

I could easily see this becoming the new Moulin Rouge.
If I recall correctly the buzz for that movie also had many people predicting an utter failure as well, and probably even fewer predicting that it would be the movie to help breathe new life into the movie-musical genre.
I'm not saying it's going to go on to become a huge mega-hit. Yes, it is a basic, often rehashed story, but that story is one that many audience members are willing to embrace over and over. Showgirls was far from the first movie to chart the small town girl and her rise from obscurity into stardom, and Burlesque will be far from the last to mine the depths of that story.
