Yes, she is quite powerful!
Do you see improvement yet on restoration?
I can't speak for Jersey, but bit by bit New York and the 'burbs are coming back -- although some areas are not expected to have their power back for up to two more weeks. And if we get that Nor'easter, then all bets are off.
G'morning
EARTHQUAKE! In SENSURROUND!
Good morning, kids.
Still BRRRRRRR!!!!
Hallo!
FYI Deet, I read back this morning...

I wuv you.
Max wuvs you.
The tropical section is all spruced up and waiting for you.
Morning.
Still WFH as work is still without power. Most people are able to log in today though, but my laptop wants to be difficult and IT can't figure it out yet. So still working via iphone e-mail which is getting really annoying, but could be worse.
Hopefully dropping Mom off home today. Love her, and she's relatively low maintenance, but its been a week. I want my single living alone routine back, lol.
Halloween and school is still closed in my town. We had 4 water main breaks this morning, so that isn't helping esp since our town water pump station is still working via generators. Most residential areas still without power.
But gas lines seem to be getting relatively better so that's a plus.
Just got an e-mail. Fuel will be available to employees at certain locations to be deducted from paycheck, no cash, debit/credit accepted. 15 gals a person, per day. No gas cans.

That's a pretty good deal!
Yeah...no worry if I can't get somewhere on my appointed day, which is today, but it's just about full, so I'm good now.
I mis-read. DOT-approved gasoline safety containers will be allowed. Hours are 11am to 10pm, 7 days a week. My location is one of the four listed so far. I guess they'll be bringing in a fuel pumping truck. No mention of where on the property this is happening. I'll scope it out later.
"This initiative is focused on supporting our employees and their families during this difficult time. We want to ensure that employees with the most urgent of needs (e.g., fuel for generators) can avail themselves of this support as they recover from the storm.
This temporary assistance program will remain in place until gasoline and utility services are more widely available in these impacted areas. We are working with our vendors to ensure we have adequate quantities available, but we ask for your patience and understanding if supplies run out."

Hola, peeps! Late getting on today, thanks to the hundreds of details I had to take care of at work. Why, oh why do I take days off? It just doesn't pay. On the other hand, we have heat, lights and internet, so no complaints from here!
Hola, Moony!
A guy at work here, his cousin's house in Little Ferry is condemned and her shore house is under three feet of water.

I'm cracking up. My friend in CA turns 50 today, and her daughter posted a pic of the two of them at the beach earlier today, "Happy Birthday to my beautiful mama only 59 years young!"
My friend comments "59?! I'M 50!!!"
Her daughter: "Whoops!!"
LOLOLOLOL!!

yikes
Just got back from dropping Mom off at home (and her 18 side stops she failed to tell me about). After a guilt trip and a half, we get to her place and find that brother (who had been staying there this whole time with his gf) never emptied the fridge or freezer, and garbage collection was this morning. Nor did they really take after the animals well - and well - just not a good scene (and he let my moms car run completely out of gas). I just couldn't. After everything else, I just couldn't pick up this mess again. I got mom's machines carried in and hooked back up and booked it out of there. I feel guilty as hell sitting here but I just.... I have nothing left.
Now to de-smokify the apt. I have the windows wide open and left a fan blowing in the kitchen when i left. I just lysoled everything I could, but realized i'm outta febreeze.
Oh well.... just me venting.... even with my family dysfunction I am still better off than most. Just need to keep reminding myself that when I'm tempted to go track someone down at his job and knock him over the head with one of their really heavy skillets........

Good lord. You don't want to know what I'm thinking about your brother right now, Tink. It ain't pretty.
And it's all probably valid. But the guilt feeling in my stomach grows by the minute.
I actually just ate a brownie, so you know it's serious! lol
I'm pretty sure my mom had a feeling this was what she'd come home to and why every day it's been "one more night" but I need to get back to my routine.

Oh...and Mom still smokes - even with her machines?
Broadway Legend Joined: 1/14/05
Hmm, is this typical for your brother? That is brutal!
Hope life gets back to normal for you all!
Oh yeah she still smokes. Her opinion at this point is the damage is done, not going to make it overall any better. I have argued the opposite many times but eventually just gave up.
And I live on second floor, so there was no way she was going to make it up and down everytime. So I said use the stove exhaust/kitchen window, which generally if I have a friend over and they do that it's not a big deal. But a week of chain smoking is a different story.
and yes Brd - this is very typical, it's just each time sinks to lows you didn't know were still possible. And he's 32 so "he'll grow out of it" does not apply.
Brother needs a smack or two across the head, Tink.
And the knees.
BTW: A helpful "Hint from Heloise:" (Anyone remember her?)
Ordinary white vinegar, placed in small bowls around the apartment, will remove the smell of stale smoke almost overnight. This also works to remove smoke from clothing if you hang the clothes over or near a bowl - and this does work overnight.
What's really frightening is what the vinegar looks like after. Really, really frightening.

Yea, time for him to respect your mother! (My youngest two could use a little more respect! C19 - no issues!)
Thank you D2!!! I have an unopened bottle of distilled white vinegar in the closet!
And what my walls looked like after I wiped them down about a month after I quit - the towels - yeah, I can imagine! lol 11 months next week!
Congrats tink! Stick with it. It's been over 5 years. Wow. I can barely remember being a smoker.
Tink, all I can say is your mom is lucky to have you. And, your brother deserves a good kick in the Ass.
I hope normal returns to all of the Adults soon. I think only Johnny is without power now, correct?
And, don't forget to vote tomorrow!
