Poor cuz, all alone in the Adult house.
Lovely, low-keyed holiday. We saw a really enjoyable movie last night, "About Time". From the same writer/director who did "Notting Hill" and "Love, Actually".
I need to leave the house, if for no other reason than to put some distance between my mouth and the leftover pecan pie. I'm not venturing within 5 miles of a mall, though.
An interesting weekend of theater-going to mark the 40th anniversary of my first Broadway show, seeing two musicals that are both struggling to find audiences. One is large and flawed, the other is small and perfect, both are deserving the support of theater goers.
Of course, BIG FISH has already announced it is closing at the end of the year. That's unfortunate, if understandable. The reviews were not kind and the word of mouth is mixed, although I found it to be a very moving evening.
But A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER, which opened a couple of weeks ago to largely rapturous reviews and strong word of mouth, is also having a hard time filling seats, even if today's matinee looked like a packed house.
It would be a shame if this show doesn't find it's audience, for it is a return to the glorious charms of old-fashioned musical comedy, perfectly executed and performed with such delicious glee it is impossible to resist. Everything works, and everyone is working on the very highest level possible, resulting in one of those theatrical experiences that remind one why they fell in love with musicals in the first place. If you care at all for the state of the art, and you want to have a wonderful time, then go see this show. Even if the cast exhorts you to leave in the first number, don't listen to them. Stay, be entertained, and fall in love with musical comedy all over again.
Happy Monday!

Wow - a ringing endorsement with much affection, Deet! Have you said as much in the *shudder* Main Board?
We have the day off but I've been cyber-shopping since 7:00am. I think I'll wait a bit and let the credit card cool off. Heading into the office in a bit to decorate for the season. I think they turned the heat off for the 5 day break, so my stay could be very short!

Interesting that you have the day off - is that usual?
Great weekend with family and friends - excellent T-day. Football games were all losers. But, so much fun with nephews in Lincoln and tailgating with high school group. 0-3 for the weekend and I seriously think C15 might need counseling.
Another bus and train ride with the Mrs. still funny to me.
I must say I'm unimpressed with black friday/cyber monday this year. Some deals yes but nothing that I'm jumping about like last year.
This is my first full work week in a month. and last for rest of year. Which means it will be hell.
I am taking today off, and will being going to the movies in a bit. I drove past the mall coming home for Sacto on Friday - and I actually shuddered. It was like a current version of "Scenes From a Mall" - cars lined up and waiting and waiting to get into the parking lot. Just driving past on the way home took forever. No thank you!
Happy Monday Adults.
I was supposed to take today off. But, no deal.
I was also supposed to take Friday off. But, that, too, has been cancelled.
In protest, I am spending as much of my day as possible online, ordering Holiday gifts. And doing personal stuff.
But, I really, really, really need a day off. At home.
Otherwise, it was wonderful to have the 4-day Thanksgiving break. Mine was low-key, relaxing and also busy, in a good way. Very productive, which was satisfying.
Happy December!

Addy, I drove 1100 miles and in addition to Thanksgiving was at 12 hours of football including pre-game - not relaxing but FUN. Yesterday I raked leaves for about three hours and then came to the office for an hour. Last night insomnia - today TIRED!!!
I did a movie Two-fer - Hunger Games (a nice adaptation, I read the books and enjoyed this more than the first) and Frozen, basically Wicked with Ice instead of green. Frozen was not a masterpiece, but a nice distraction. It was actually odd hearing Idina's voice coming from Elsa - I usually associate her voice with, silly enough, a bit of heat and edge, and it was a nice contrast. Kristin Bell sings much better than I though she could. Visually quite stunning.
Back at the salt mines. Been here for over an hour and was just able to log on. Had to get a tech to reset password. Was hoping to get a good start on catching up on email before everyone started schlepping in. There goes that. See ya sometime tomorrow.

Mornin'
So the renovation is starting late; new date is Thursday. Which was good because we were able to enjoy the weekend without having to rush around emptying the contents, which is what I did yesterday and will be doing today. Jeez, we have a lot of "stuff."
I will also be going shopping for new glasses. What are the odds that I would break all three pair in the space of an hour and a half? At least I was able to Krazy Glue one pair back together, the other two will require some surgery to repair.
Moony, no, I did not share my thoughts about BIG FISH and A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER on the Main Board. Why would I do that? No one over there cares what I have to say, and this thread gets thousands of more hits than anything on that board anyway.

Deet, glad you shared your thoughts with us!
I've been dying to see 'Gentleman's Guide' for a while. PalJoey spoke about it so enthusiastically, and I adore Bryce Pinkham, who performed in 'Knickerbocker Holiday' with us. I am going to make sure I book a ticket right away!
I've had less interest in seeing 'Big Fish', but, also think I'll be sorry to miss it... Thanks to your thoughts, I'm going to get a ticket. I'd like to give it a chance.
I know about the 'stuff'! It's a great chance to weed out that which is never used, and to re-discover some things which can be enjoyed again. I loved purging and then re-organizing after the renovations. Enjoy! And good luck!
The decorations in the office are starting to go up. The really fun ones are all the cubicle decorations that the 'kids' put up. Very creative. Always a festive atmoshphere. If only work weren't so crazy at year-end.
Happy Tuesday to all

Morning peeps! It sucks being back at work, but I owe, I owe, so off to work I go!
At 10 p.m. last night as I was about to go in bed my generator turned on. It ran for about 12 minutes and when it turned off it took my power with it. I thought they're supposed to restore power? The poor electrician who had only left my house a few hours earlier had to come back. Luckily he got it back up and running. They're going back today to see if they can find and fix the issue. Always something!
