Alas, I cannot have candles. Did I ever tell you guys the story of how my first cat caught on fire?
A friend was over, and we were watching something and having some wine - we had some candles burning, and I was asked if I was worried about having a candle lit while Gorky (my first cat) was around. I said "Nah, cats know how to avoid things). Well...
I was in the kitchen to get some more wine, when all of a sudden I heard "Oh my gosh, he's on fire". Gorky, who got his name because he looked like a Russian Babushka - very furry, apparently got his tail over the lit flame, and his tail started to go up like a Christmas Tree in January. I pounced on him with a dish towel and put him out. No damage to actual cat, but lots of burnt hair. That was 15 years ago, and the last time I had candles lit without me in the room, until ...
A few years ago, I lit a Menorah for Hannuhak, and Zander decided to play with it - knocking it over and starting to burn my new dining room table. Luckily I had bought a table pad, but there was about a 12 inch burn mark on it.
So yeah, I only have candles in the event of a power outage ...
Yeesh.
And, it looks promising for a May visit. Though if I do come out, it would be during the work week.
Here's a story for you guys. A colleague who I've become close with since I got to the NY office comes in this morning looking like hell. He tells me he had about 1 hour of sleep. Of course I asked what happened. It seems his brother, who works in one of the parking garages by Wicked went missing last night. He got out of work around 10 pm and was supposed to pick his son up at the babysitters in the Bronx. Well the babysitter was trying to reach the family to explain he never got there and it was around 11 p.m. The family thought maybe he car trouble, but by 1 a.m. the search party went out. No one could reach him by phone be cause they assumed it died. Finally by 4 a.m. the located his car at a police precinct. This is an unbelievable story. As he is driving up the street before he gets to cross over Broadway a woman is laying in the middle of the street. He can't go around her due to cars parked on either sides. He honks his horn, but she doesn't move. He gets out and tells her she needs to move so he can pass or he could run her over. She refuses. He asks if she needs help. As he goes to help her up she starts screaming "RAPE! RAPE!". Of course around Times Square there are many cops who come running. They have to take him into custody and her to the hospital. He tries explaining the situation to the police who want to hear nothing. He even explains how he needs to pick his son up, but they don't believe him or care. He gets verbally abused and questioned for hours. No phone because they said he wasn't arrested just brought in for questioning. He even told them that his girlfriend was an NYPD. They didn't want to hear anything, but he was trying to rape her. Well after hours they had to let him go. The girl at the hospital was found to have all sorts of drugs on her. I guess they finally had to admit she was a crack whore. It's sad that in this day and age your ethic background can still hurt you. He's Hispanic. In this situation what does one do now? Sue the girl? Sue the police department? It's also a hard situation being his gf is NYPD. I'm sure she doesn't want to get internal affairs involved. What a mess!

Poor guy said they even spit at him...saying "what you can't get a girlfriend, so you need a rape an innocent girl?" He even said you could tell she was on something. That's probably how she wound up in the street. So messed up she just fell and laid there.
A long time ago a wise older friend told me not to help anyone on the streets of Manhattan, even if they fall because they will turn around and say you pushed them. It's an age old scam. They always have a witness verifying their story. So sad for the innocent ones.

Just read back. Brd, my condolences. You were a great help to me when my father passed; please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
I'm so glad this week is over; my department just about imploded yesterday. It was spectacular to witness, but highly upsetting.
It will be highly enjoyable for others to see, though. Soon.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
Date night tonight with him making the plans so this can go either way. Tomorrow is the memorial and repass for my cousin's grandmother than passed when I went to Italy, and then throwing my best friend's bridal shower on Sunday.
good times.

So, they took the hard cast off on Wednesday and sent me to occupational therapy yesterday. I got rejected from OT! The nerve!! Seems my hand and wrist are too swollen for therapy so I now am wrapped up in compression bandages from fingertips to elbow ans am back in a soft cast. This $&^% is getting REALLY old.
Damn you U.S.government!!!! They took almost 1/2 my bonus in taxes!!! Bastards!!!
So tonight I'm meeting up with old friends for dinner. Tomorrow I was hoping to have a full day of nothing to do except things around the house. HC decided to invite 2 of his friends over for a game night. Still not sure if that's happening or not. If not I am planting my a$$ on the couch and watching a SCANDAL marathon. Sunday will be a busy day....church, auction committee meeting after services...home...back to church in the evening to meet a candidate for the position of new parish priest. I'm bring the bread and mini-pastries

Oh moony, that is no fun!!! I hope the swelling goes down fast!
Boobs - that is quite a weekend. I finished S2 E6 last night. I'll maybe be able to get in another episode tonight. We have the last 2 Bates Motels to watch but I have to wait to watch it with the man. Mark that in the side of "maybe single wasn't so bad!" lol

Tinky, I agree with you. If HC wasn't around I would've finish both Seasons of SCANDAL and been caught up on this season. But I'm crazy about the man, so these things are unimportant to me now.
Bates Motel just keeps getting better.

Moony, thinking good thoughts for your arm - that cannot be any fun!
Boobs, usually, between my deferred comp/401 contribution and taxes, I see about 45% of my bonus. It has gotten to the point where I just cut the number in half in my head once I see the number.
But, I think it helps even out my taxes through the year, so it all evens out (I guess).
For the weekend, finish taxes, take cats to the vet for their annual visit (with Zorra doing her best Anne Frank hiding impression, it can be a challenge), visiting with mom and doing errands, and having friends over on Sunday.
And, some sleep!
I must admit, I never got into Scandal or Revenge (or Bates Motel). I just don't have the time...
I've been trying not too, and luckily only a few new ones have caught my interest lately, but I like having a show in the wings. But try not to let netflix marathon-ing come in between actual responsibility and socializing like I have in days past. I've also come to terms with being ok just reading a recap for some shows and not actually seeing them sometimes.
But next Sunday starts the #1 show of the year - Game of Thrones is back. And if I think I'm a fan, I'm nothing like Mr. Happy who read the books years and years ago and many times since. I'm like a silly newbie in comparison but it's cute.

I stayed away from the Games of Thrones. Almost started to buy the series on iTunes to watch on my Apple TV, but thought better of it. Which reminds me that I still want HC to sit down and watch Finding Neverland. One of my favorite movies and I forgot that Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) plays Peter.

Yeah, I am planning on picking up Orphan Black, Veep and GoT when they come back, but I literally have hundreds of shows on my Tivo that I have not watched. At some point, I just give up and say never mind.
Two huge projects got done this week, so I am really looking forward to the weekend. And hopefully, I can finalize whether or not I can take that jaunt east...
I saw Finding Neverland in LA. The first and only time I was ever there. LActress told me I MUST see it...and she was right! As a matter of fact that was the night I met Shira and she tagged along to the movie.

Hmmmm - things just got very interesting ... Work may want me to go to an outsourcing conference in NY on May 19th and 20th. Which means I may end up coming in a bit later and staying through the weekend...
