My Christmas cactus is in full bloom right now. I guess it wanted to get the holidays over with early.
Poddie !!! Christmas cactus will only bloom when they get cold. Last year my big one bloomed in October when it got cold outside. I read somewhere that people will put them in their garages so that they will bloom quicker...unless your garage is heated then that won't work.
I didn't know that Boobsie. I've had the heat off or really low since I spend so much time at the other house. So that makes sense.
Now what happens with the flowers? Does it continually flower and they need to be picked back? Or does it flower, and the flower dies and falls off? What do I need to do? Guess I should go read up some more.

Mornin' Peeps!
I'm getting my new floor next Monday! Woot!
Girly...don't do anything...enjoy the blooms until they fall off. Please post picture when they are blooming.
Poddie...what color blooms do you have? I think mine are peach.
I have the traditional fuschia, Poddie. I just read that they are now growing Thanksgiving and Easter blooming cactii -- maybe mine is one of them.
Here you go Girly:
"One of the most frustrating things that can happen to Christmas cactus is after the flower buds have developed they drop off the plant. Bud drop can be caused by anyone of several different conditions. Usually it's because of over-watering, lack of humidity or insufficient light. After The Christmas holiday season, the Christmas cactus should be given about a 30 day rest. Again place it in a cool room and provide limited water. Don't worry if it loses a few leaves or joints and appears weak during this rest period. This is not the time to pinch, prune or shape a Christmas cactus. The best time is when the new growth begins in March or early April."
